..a friend of mine is trying out a Ti4600 and a 9600pro to upgrade from his GF2 vidcard ..

..the Ti4600 installs just fine and everything ..then after cleaning out nVidia drivers and installing 9600pro , the different hardware accelerations buttons in dxdiag are greyed out .. when he fires up riva tuner , it doesnt list a driver...this also happens with clean install of win98se and dx9 on a A7N8X dlx mobo..

he said he has tried 3 diff drivers for win98/Me with same results

did a search here and havnt found solution yet and i have been google'n as well looking for a solution ..perhaps I'm just not using the correct key words in my searches.

any help would be much appreciated ..thanks :)

format to XP.
thats what i suggested ..but he has some old school wheel setups for racing that dont work like he wants them too in xp

latest nforce drivers for win98 and he used DH's drive cleaner proggy

..but he gets same thing with fresh install of win98 with 9600pro

would have to check on specifics with that .. he said most recent ATi drivers for win98 and that he also tried 2 diff omega versions

Ah that could be the problem, Microsoft no longer gives WHQL for Windows ME and 98, therefore the last Cat driver that supports 98/ME is Cat 4.3.

Note: As of January 1, 2004, Microsoft no longer accepts certification submissions for the Microsoft® Windows® Millennium Edition operating system. ATI Technologies Inc. can no longer obtain WHQL certification for this operating system. For more information refer to the following Microsoft® website: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwtest/search/details.aspx?ID=800

Therefore, tell your friend to upgrade to xp/2000/2003, or download the Cat 4.3. It's not ATi's fault, it's Microsofts.
