My old rig is running Windows 98 1st edition but the mp3 player I want to use needs 98SE. Also I want to install a front USB port via the PCI slot and even that requires 98SE.

Will I run into problems even if I don't have 98SE?

Thanx

Try it, and see. I have an old Asus that has the original build, and its USB works great. In fact, the rig has had Win98 stripped to the bone. Yours may work fine. I think that a lot software developers and manufacturers sometimes ask for SE just to be on the safe side.

You should be fine.
Microsoft starting supporting USB with the release of Windows95 "B" version.

Nope, it wont work. The drivers wont load so I'm getting a new HD and starting from scratch with XP home.

Semirelated, I cant get any USB decives to work on my 98se machine (nforce2 if that matters). I somehow got it to recognise my Rio mp3 player one, but now it wont. I also cat get my Jumpdrive Trio to work. I downloaded the driver thrm Lexar's site and it did nothing.

when was the last time you updated windows. Check your device drivers, and reinstall MS Windows 98SE USB drivers.

Here snaggeh this file --> USB No worky

Cheers,
