Will upgrading from 512 to 1gb of ram make a big difference?

I have 512mb (2x256) pc3200 ram - kingston valueram. if added another 512mb (2x256) will this make a big difference or run it alot faster? im a gamer but i dont have that kind of money to spend on the expensive gaming memory so valueram is fine for me. thanks guys...

If you play newer games, 1 gig of RAM will be very helpful for performance. Overall, it's good for performance anyways, to give a brief answer.
