I found a spare mobo...

MOBO

and i have this chip laying around

Chip

will they work together?

what is the easiest way to tell if they will work together?

thanks in advance.

the easiest way is to look at the board requirements, lol. But hey, you've got both of em just laying around? Plug em up and try em out, won't hurt. comp will just not post if the motherboard isn't supporting =)

yeah, mobo's with 845 chipsets usually dont support prescott... but there is an updated version... the 848 chipset... that is if you want to go with one... personally i would use 865 if i could find one in my price range

The 845 chipset can support Prescott processors. I built a system for my nephew with this board (QDI P2PE/800 w/845PE chipset... it even supports 800MHz FSB) plus a Celeron D last year: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=2PE800-PRO6AL-N

But yeah, most 845 boards do not support Prescott core CPUs. There are only a few exceptions.
