Will I see a major difference?

On 3Dmark03 when I upgrade to an ATI 9800Pro and a 2800+ Barton from a MSI FX5600Ultra 256 and a 2600+ Thoroghbred will I see a major difference in points? When I say as major, would it increase/add 3000+ more point? or more? lol I ran it with the FX5600 and the 2600+ and only score a sad 2000 points.

Check the online database. You can see what people are scoring w/ equivalent systems.

I hope you're not upgrading just to get more worthless 3dmarks.

yikes. I don't think there are too many idiots here.

If all the dude wants to do is benchmark all day long, ....so what?

You will see a significant difference in 3dmark. There. That wasn't too hard.

Another newbie cheeze trying to puff out their chest. 3DMark is a synthetic benchmark, Meaning it's very possible to upgrade, and loose points, but yet have gaming scores go up. No one trusts 3DMark scores worth a damn after all the behind the scenes deal with both companies. It's about how can add all kinds of cheating performance tweaks in the drivers. So, upgrading for the sake of benchmarking IS stupid.

Hmmm. If I want to run 3dmark all day, and nothing else, and I get hot flashes thinking about how I can get 20 more points in 3dmark by upgrading this or that, and I don't care about performance in any other areas whatsoever, why then upgrading for benchmarks is A CAPITAL FU*&(NG IDEA.

Djnes, I have read many hundreds of your posts and I respect you. Reassess. You are confused either because you failed to read my post or failed to understand it. I appreciate that you are acutely aware that amongst benchmarks 3dmark is horses&*t. That's been beat to death on this board. That wasn't the point of my post. My point, which you have illustrated so magnificently when you pointed out that I was"trying to puff out my chest" is that there is no reason to be rude to somebody who is just asking a harmless question, even if you an elitist snob and you think they are an idiot. Especially if you don't even answer the question.

Why cant you guys go a day without flaming someone? No, Im not a idoit. I upgrading my computer because I want to run Doom3, UT2K4 and Half-Life2 really fucking well. Not just to get a good 3Dmark, and plus just because I only have 60+ posts and have the newbie cheese under my name doesnt mean that I am a newbie cheese. Actually Im a computer Technician you dumb fucks, I just wanted to ask a simple question and get a simple answer.

nice double post...

you will notice increased performance. even if you don't notice the extra 3dmarks.

Someone just got smote by 'newbie cheese' :).

Yes, you'll see a big increase. Particularly since (if I'm not mistaken) the 5600 is really limited in it's texel fillrate.

More importantly in my opinion (but perhaps not yours), you'll also be far better off when it comes to real world performance in games.

Erik

The combination of the two upgrades will give you a significant increase in performance.

just be sure to thoroughly remove those nvidia drivers before you install the 9800.

If I was just a computer technician, I wouldn't go around putting other people down...especially when you don't know what the other people (like me) do. It also doesn't bode well for you to flame back at people (while your putting them down for flaming) and double posting on top of that.

i sympathize with C|ip$3

all he wanted was a simple answer and mostly all he got was flamed .

i can understand his anger at the teenage mentality that runs rampant around here sometimes.

been there , flamed back , :p

best to let the idiots identify themselves by the nature and content of their flames then to get sucked in and flame back.

It has nothing to do with the teenage mentality or anything like that. Surely you've read the billion reports of cheating through drivers in the synthetic benchmarks? Kyle exposing some of the cheating? ATI and Nvidia both guilty? The general consensus of everyone that 3DMarks are not to be trusted? It's a known fact, and that's why these threads invoke such harsh returns. The original post makes no mention of games. It infers the person is trying to upgrade simply to gain a better score. It's the equivalent of people slapping R stickers on their car to make it faster. It's laughable, and that's why people suggesting it are flamed.

Djnes.....
(sigh)
Teenage mentality sums it up rather succinctly, IMHO.

You are correct that 3Dmark is a phony benchmark, and nobody at [H] disagrees with you (or cares much).

Please read the above sentence as many times as is necessary for you to understand it. I'm not trying to flame you, or embarass you or whatever, I know from reading your posts that you are a clever fellow who knows hardware. You are on the wrong side of this one, though, and I will explain why, even though you won't extend that courtesy to anyone else until called on the carpet for it, and then it's all excuses and justifications. Being wrong is no big deal. All of us here are wrong about various things all day long.

C|ip$3 made no reference to gaming whatsoever in his initial post, as you have correctly surmised. He asked specifically if he would see a "major" increase in 3Dmark points after such and such upgrade. There is no way a reasonable person could parse any other meaning from his post; his question was plainly stated. He inferred nothing, he implied nothing. He asked a simple question.

You took that as license to call him an idiot. You didn't say, "for the following reasons, upgrading to increase performance in benchmarking programs is a bad idea in my opinion because blah blah blah.." you said flat out that if one upgrades to increase benchmarks one is an idiot.

Apart from the obvious flaws in that argument, which I pointed out in my response to your flame at me, the issue here is your apparent desire to prevent people who you consider less knowledgeable than yourself from posting here. I mean, that's why you flamed C|ip$3, isn't it? I can't think of any other reason for you to post what you did. Then you are criticized and you blow two posts trying to justify your behavior. WTF? You are wrong, C|ip$3 is blameless (exept for not doing a little more homework) and nobody is the wiser for the experience. So on behalf of the folks here that aren't on ego-steroids, sorry C|ip$3 - I hope you continue to post here

Thanks Captain Rehab I appreciate what you said. And I thank everyone who answered my question. I did notice that I posted twice but it wouldnt let me delete it, so I just left it alone. If you think Im an Idiot Rjnes, why do you even bother posting? Do you have something to prove?

Never once did I infer anything about YOU being an idiot. I questioned your reasons for upgrading. Do you realize how many people waste tons of money trying to eek out a few extra scores in fake benchmarks? You seem to have a better understanding that these people...but you have to realize we don't have ESP. I make my posts based on what I read. Yours was very very similiar to these wasteful people. I don't feel a need to prove anything to anyone, certainly not on an internet forum. My first post was meant for you to refocus your reasons for upgrading IF it was solely for 3DMark scores.

soon to be locked

pathetic flaming

just drop it

take what info you need and leave what you dont need

and then stop the useless flow of hurtful words

when will you guys learn.....
