I am planning to build a system with the following hardware...

Asus P4S800-D MB
P4 2.8C, 800 MHz FSB
Corsair 2X512 MB RAM, PC-3200
80GB WD Hard drive
Radeon 9600Pro 128MB Vid card
Plus a DVD writer and CD-ROM

My case has a 400 watt power supply, but will that be enough?

Thanks

300w will be more then enough for that setup. You need to be more concerned with the quality of the PSU. Wattage rating doesn't really mean anything. There's a chance that your PSU may be 400w and can only put out 200w because of actual combined outputs and wattage lost to heat and so on. I never consider a non name brand PSU in ANY system.

o no not another debate about PSU's...
all i can say is yes, that will be enough power. Don't get me started on the whether the quality and brand name of the PSU matters... ;)

Yes, the 400 watt ps should handle your system.

I'd prefer a high quality 350W over a cheap ass 450W. If you value your system, put a quality PSU in it. It has to be the most overlooked component. Most cheap-ass PSUs that come with cases are like driving a car with the lug nuts off the wheels. Sure it may drive fine for a little, but eventually, your bound to have a problem.

Would you please name names...what PSU brands are most trusted?

Antec, Enermax, Fortron, PC Power and Cooling, Thermaltake, Vantec, Zalman, Enlight, Sparkle, most anything from the FSP group.

I usually stick with Antec True Powers myself.
