Given that AVX is one of the few reasons to upgrade to SB I am wondering if anything besides benchmarks will use it? Like RAR, Adobe, etc?

It is in use, just not in any software you run. ;)

I wouldn't expect PS to support it until the next major release (CS6).

Software always lags behind new hardware features.

f@h is just now getting their crap together to take proper advantage of ATI cards. would they like to support it? probably. do they yet? not that I can tell.

:p More like the other way around. The reason for the dearth of Stream API based software compared to CUDA API based software is that the (Stream) SDK is crummy and API is/was fragile and breaks between graphics driver releases. Worse is that many useful features were only supported starting in the HD 5000 and later series.

That f@h even has what they have for ATI support is pretty impressive.

.Net Framework 4.1 or 4.0 SP1 will allow AVX through that root

Well it will allow for SSE5 in encoding
