Will a VPN hide the amount of data i use from my ISP?

Quick yes or no will suffice, but if you want to give an explanation that's welcomed too.

Can't find a definitive answer on google from a trusted source.
 
I dont think they necessarilly dont know what it is, if he passes huge ammounts they will start checking what hes moving.
 
they cant, it is encrypted from point to point, all they will see is how much data is going back and forth and if they throttle it there is a massive can of worms on your ISP packet sniffing on you
 
Because of overhead, it will probably use a bit more.
 
If your ISP hacks your vpn tunnel it is a felony. And you can press charges. However you will never know they are.
 
I assume you're trying to work around bandwidth caps, so you a VPN can't help you there, but if you were interested in the reverse, you could fill the remainder of the VPN tunnel with "noise" so it looked like you were using more traffic.

Seems pointless, but it would hide actual traffic levels - I'm sure someone wants to do that somewhere...
