i lost my original power chord for my desktop and now, whenever i try to turn it on with my new one. the power supply makes a high pitched sqeek for about 10 minutes, but the computer doesn't turn on. i don't know whats wrong, and the noise seems to be coming from the power supply? does anybody know what this might be?

It would be suspect in my book. I would consider it an extreme longshot that the power cord could cause the high pitch whine you are hearing from your PS.

Check to make sure someone didn't accidentally flip the 220/110 switch on the back of the PS. If you live in the US it should be set to 110v.

It also wouldn't hurt to open up your box and make sure all the connections are tight inside of there.

How did you loose your power cord? Did you just move? If that's the case, make double sure everything in your case is seated properly and connections are tight.

Other than that, I would say to swap out the PS and see if that fixes the problem.
