I was thinking about getting the 2005fpw but I have 2 concerns.

For games that don't support widescreen mode, is the image stretched or do you just get black bars on the left and right. I'd prefer the black bars much more than a distorted image.

Since the resolution on widescreen monitors is compromised compared to their 4:3 brethren, does that mean text will be slightly bigger and more readable? For example I'd think at their respective native resolutions, text would be larger on the 2005 fpw than the 2001fp.

Ati drivers support strecthing and locking to a normal aspect, you just have to determine what you want in the display proerties. I am pretty sure nvidia does the same. Actually i think nvidia drivers offer even more controll

I cant compare my 2005fpw to the 2001fp, but the text is about the same size as it was on my 19" crt, just about 10x more crisp.

A am very happy with my 2005fpw, but i will probably be sending it back. No dead pixels but i have some extreme backlight leakage that is very very annoying. Other than that i was very impressed. If i do return it, i will definatly be getting another 2005.

ps. HL2 is amazing @ 1680x1050
