I'm considering buying 2x 19inch monitors, possibly 1440x900 widescreen.
I've never had widescreen before, nor played any games on a widescreen.

My question is:

-Do games support this resolution?
-Does everything else besides look crap unless it's at its native 1440x900 resolution?
-Will things look stretched?
-Should I just go with 4:3 1280x1024s?

Cheers.

Most titles that have been made in the last year and a half do, except for EA (coincidentally the world's largest publisher) titles.

Yes.
-Will things look stretched?
Only if you are playing a game that doesn't support 1440x900

1280x1024 is actually 5:4, and you should probably go with one of those. A 19" 5:4 monitor is actually a good deal larger when you measure surface area rather than diagonal. I like widescreen 1080p or greater. Any less than that gets annoying to me because verticle space is important for web browsing.

After going 1440x900 Widescreen I will never go back to non widescreen. Yes, I also have bigger sized widescreen monitors but this one does the job quite nicely. Plays Counter-Strike at that resolution and it looks fantastic. When playing older games like StarCraft it will stretch it BUT you can set it up so it does not stretch. I still play with it stretched because it does not look bad at all.

I would go for the 1440x900 or something with 1680x1050. Widescreen is the way to go!

In my opinion a 19" widescreen is just too small...I would rather have a 4:3 if I were getting a 19". I suggest getting a high quality 20" widescreen and avoiding the 22" craze....I just don't understand giving up panel quality and the same resolution as a 20" for just 2 measly inches of screen real estate..
