wide vs normal

A 'regular' one would be 1024x768. From corner to corner diagonaly is 17" so I am guessing that the height is a little less than a regular monitor but the width is a little more but equal in total screen area...please correct me if i am wrong...

It would be nice for watching dvds in wide screen but I'm not sure how practical everyday use would be...

No, a "regular" 17" is almost always 1280X1024. So for that widescreen you are getting 25% less space than a normal 17' LCD. Or honestly if you had already gone to newegg, why didn't you just look at the 17" panels there to decide for yourself?
 
resolutions dont really mean anything... a 30 inch, 19 inch, 20 inch all have 1280 X 1024

and demensions include the outside stuff right? and not the screen size alone

i just find these screens really cool.. cuz your eye can see more horizontally then vertically... so it even seems bigger... but i just wanna know the size so i know how big things will be... cuz i dont want a screen that is vertically the size of a 14 inch or something... just wanna know what it would look like...

They only mean what you are going to be able to see on the screen, so yeah nothing really :rolleyes: And no, that widescreen does not do 1280x1024, it can't.

no i mean... for the LCDs i saw.. screen size and resolution didnt have any relation to how much you can see ont he screen... i was mentioning regular screens not wide screens...

so since its 1280X784 which is fine for me... i just wanna know if the screen itself has more area then a regular one
 
I guess i am not sure what you are asking, since screen size and resolution are the ONLY things that have any relation to how much you can see on the screen. Are you asking about the dimensions of the monitor?

yes.. so if i were to see a movie.. at widescreen compared to one that is regular on a regular screen would the area be the same size?

wat about games? how does that work?

i just wanna know if i should get one.. considering i dont play games much...

but mainly for word, movies, tv, etc
 
Once u have used a wide-screen for any length of time, you can not go back to the normal 4:3 ratio screen and not feel severely restricted.

Get wide-screen. It's so much nicer. ^_^

the thing i like most about widescreens is that u can have 2 documents open at the same time side by side.

and doing a little simple geometry u can tell that the area of the screen that is 17" diagnal will be the EXACT same area as a 4:3 screen.

so ur getting the same monitor size with the widescreen, its just stretched a little.

Wrong - Screen size is measured - the measurement would be worthless otherwise.
 
What would you use these for? Are these stricly TV's used in your kitchen or small space area?
 
its a TV/monitor.. u can use it as a regular computer monitor.. but watching anime/movies/etc would be much better on widescreen.. so u dont get those damn black stuff on top and bottom
