Wide Screen & Gaming?

I tried getting on answer on this at the UBI forums but I guess there were not enough folks with widescreen displays. A Question for anyone that has a wide screen monitor. In HL2 you get a bit more peripheral vision or image on the right/left. Is this the case with Far Cry as well? Also other online MP games as well? It seems that having a slightly wider view would be an adavantage on-line.
 
Minds with free cash to blow think a like!;)

Anyone of have any practical experience with this (outside of HL2). Just want to make sure I am not off base on this assumption for games that support wide screen.
