why the heck are all benchmarks showing vista to be slow than xp?

Because it is. Every new OS from everyone is slower than previous generations and require more resources to run.
However the difference in speed between the two is minor.

Benchmarks arent currently taking Vistas different way of HDD/Memory usage into account. Sure, Vista takes more resources than XP, but when I load a game it runs as good or better than it did on the same system in XP.

Im sure not everyone has the same experience with Vista. However, both my PCs and my roomates PC run our games faster in Vista.

Personally I dont care about "benchmarks," I only care that it performs in the "real world."

I think it's going to depend on the game. After installing Vista Company of Heroes did, in fact run slower. Ok, it was only 3FPS slower, but hey, that's slower!

On the other hand, I have been hearing from friends that EQ2 runs a little faster under Vista than XP. At least for nVidia owners.

Give it time, as drivers mature it will get better. Once DX10 games start arriving, you should see speed improvements over DX9 and XP if the hype is accurate.
