Why is my sharpness so poor?

My cousin brought his computer over to my house to play some games, he played on my 60" DLP which I've used as a second monitor before, but don't very often because the sharpness is absolutely horrid. It hurts my eyes, it's hard to read off of.

So, he hooks his computer up to it and what do you know.. it's sharp! Not LCD sharp, but MUCH sharper than I've been able to get.

Now, I have no issues on my Samsung 40". Looks just fine, just like every other PC on every other LCD I've ever seen.

So, why did his PC give so much sharper picture on the DLP? His PC has Windows 7 and a GTX 460, which has native hdmi support.

I'm on XP with a 260 and I have DVI support, but no HDMI. I use a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Is it because of his native HDMI support?
Is it because of Windows 7?

Help me out here, I'd love to use this monster for gaming!!

My guess is because you are using a strange resolution. The display is probably 1920x1080 natively. What you probably have going on is overscan. You need to check the protector to make sure it is set not to do any overscan. I can't tell you what it is called as all devices are different but maybe 1:1, just scan, screen fit or the like. Also make sure you have no overscan/zooming going on with your video card. You want your video card to output 1920x1080, and for your DLP to do 1:1 mapping of that.

I'm telling you what is probably going on. You need to take the time to investigate how your projector works, and play with the settings in your video card. I cannot give you a magic fix, I'm not at your equipment. I have seen sharpness problems like that, and they are usually resolution mismatches due to overscan.

Cannot find a blasted thing in the nVidia Control Panel.. The closest I found was on my TV, undersize? and standard. It looked even worse on the other setting, and yes it was 1920x1080.

Maybe the 460 has better drivers?
...

It's clearly off, considerably...

But whatever I do, use reduce or standard, and 1808? or 1920, it's really bad. Mits is on the right. Samsung is on the left (LCD)

If you could give us the exact model numbers of the displays that you are hooking up, your resolution, your driver version, what connection you're using, etc. it would be easier to answer your question.

Drivers 260.63 (Just put it on last night)
WD-60638 and LN40B550
1920x1080 native on both screens.. I also tried 1808x1016 on the DLP. No success either way, just made it all fit on the screen.
The DLP is getting signal from my DVI port through an HDMI adapter (DVI on PC side, HDMI on DLP side.)
The LCD is getting signal from my DVI port through a D-SUB adapter (DVI on PC side, D-SUB on LCD side.)
