Why higher res gaming?

i tried to play CS at 1280x960...i use to play below that and now that i changed it...i have to make the screen bigger so it can fit fully in my monitor..the problem is...when i make the screen wider so it can fit in the monitor its alreayd at 100% so i cant make it any bigger. is there another way to make the screen bigger b/c i have like an inch of just black on the left n right side of CS now...

I play CS, and I don't know if this goes for other games, but my crosshair becomes so much more accurate at high rez so i play 16x12 for the aiming advantage. I would assume this goes for other FPS titles as well. I get so many more headshots with 16x12 crosshair accuracy.

For me it´s the opposite. My mouse movement get really slow and laggy at 1600x1200 and that is with a Intellimouse 4.0...

ok nvm..i fixed that...but now the font when u type is WAY too small...there a way to make it bigger?

ROFL how can u possibly think, or argue that a guy on the screen would get smaller on higher rez? Did you even stop to think about it logically? What happens to perspective if he gets smaller? What happens to field of view? ROFL

I'm the same way. Low refresh rates hurt my head.

I just got Far Cry and I can really max everything out at 1024x768 with 4x anisotropic. I run without antialiasing but the characters are so detailed there is not many jaggies at all which I really don´t get why. On the weapon there is just about zero jaggies and that is just about impossible at 1024x768 on a 21" monitor.

But my sig I can max every ingame setting out at 1024x768 and use high quality mip map and texture in ATI control panel.

I use shadows to high or medium instead of very high since that makes me above 30 fps just about always regardless of how intense battles I am in.
