When ever I shut down my computer the safe way it will make a series of interesting sounds:

At shutdown screen: Loud harddrive noise followed by a hiss, almost a woosh of air sound: Ksssshhhhhhhhhhh!:D

Then, all the fans in the pc go crazy for 1 second, spinning very fast, then everything makes a wurrrrrrr sound and shuts down.

I dont have a problem with the noise, I think its  but I want to know if anybody else experiences these noises and if so, why these happen.

mine is different

first windows shuts down. then my hard drives stop. then the fans and lights quit and it off

Windows shuts down and the drives and fans spin down. Then I have silence.

When the "AAHHHHH!!! MY CPU IS BURN0RSING UP!!!!" situation occurs.

All I hear is the hard drive heads park in position *click*, veewwww.... everything winding down :)

Nothing out of the ordinary when I shut down. When I start it up after a long period of sitting, it sounds terrible because I assume all of the bearings arent warmed up yet. Usually goes away after 30 seconds or so

I hear a 747 after fuel is cut off to the engines :p *hint* sig =D

I hear a sound when the PSU shuts off, the hard drives shut up, and the fans spin down.

What was scary was when my mobo somehow reported a temp of 300 C, and the system speaker made loud ass sounds for a few seconds and then the computer shut down.

i hear some exodus of sound when my computer shuts off through the speakers, then the lights all go off as the fans spin down...
and then my harddrive goes off with the PSU

Windows shuts down, I hear the hard drives click and spin down, then power is cut and the lights/fans turn off and spin down. A smooth landing :D

All the hear is the fans and hard drive spin down. Nothing spectacular or anything like what you described.

My old pc sounded like a harrier jet when you first powered up, it was "deeeee booosh errrrrrrrrrrrr"

We should start a comic strip :D
