WHS - Upgrading data drives?

I'm running a WHS at my parents house for their media. It's sitting somewhere near 3TB of data. The server was built a long while ago and is using a few lower capacity drives (500GB) that we would like to change out for higher capacity, such as 1-2TB drives.

My understanding with WHS is the drive pooling is JBOD. Is it possible to migrate the data amongst these drives to the new so I can effectively remove the 500GB drives? I know there are know real drive letters associated with each so I don't know how to go about migrating data.

Thanks!

As long as you have enough free space, you can just remove the small drive within WHS and it will migrate all the data off to the other drives. The physically remove the drive and replace with a larger drive.

Say you don't have duplication on for any shares. I remember there being some script somewhere that would force all the data off a specific drive of your choosing so you can remove it.

The above post is correct. Just go into the console, right click on a smaller drive, and select "remove" follow the bouncing ball and when it is done, unplug the drive, and plug in a bigger one.

If it is sata, no need to even shutdown the box.

Ahh, ok. I didn't realize it would move the data off of it when you did that.

That was designed for moving data off the Data partition on the boot/system drive.
If you tried to do that on a DE drive it would probably mess it up because of the symbolic links.
