Hi,

Built a new machine (see main machine in rig) with a carryover 6870 while waiting for maybe prices of the GTX 770 to stabilize locally.

Something odd I've noticed is that right before the Windows 7 loading screen comes out (and in between the ASUS logo), there is a white line that often appears either in the middle of the screen and sometimes also at the bottom (the picture I took only shows the one mid-screen).

There seems to be nothing otherwise wrong with the PC. No bluescreens while gaming (BF3 so far) or anything.

Should I be concerned? I have never seen this before with an otherwise stable system.

I'm running HDMI off a cheap ~5$ cable so if those contribute to quirks then I'm fine with that.

edit: nothing overclocked; just set the XMP so far for 1866 RAM. I did try prime95 with stock clocks/volts on the stock cooler but shut it down immediately after reaching 90C.

 
Do you have another HDMI cable (or a DVI cable) that you can use for troubleshooting?
 
The 'issue' seems to be with the display switching to HDMI.

Using a DVI cable, no such 'problems'. Also with the DVI cable, I saw some pre-boot screens I previously didn't see with the HDMI cable.

Looks like I'll be staying with the DVI for the meantime.

Probably not as big of an issue as I thought it was.

It was a basic troubleshoot, but totally slipped my mind to try.

At least no probable component failure.

No problem. Sometimes the best solutions come from the simplest steps.

Do you believe that your HDMI issues stem more from the monitor than the cable itself?
 
Given that this is the first time this has happened and that the only things that have changed is the system sans the GPU which the monitor was connected to, my untechnical explanation is that the motherboard initializes the GPU/HDMI later than the old board, and the lines I see is the HDMI being 'shocked' into life.

Since I have no issues with the HDMI after the OS boots, I guess it's not really a problem either.

Other than that I have totally no idea. I used the Monitor, the GPU and the cable with my previous system and I've never seen anything like it.

Thankfully it's more of an oddity than a real issue/component failure.

Now if there were only a way to fix PSU coil whine, this rig with maybe a GTX 770 would be perfect...
