Zalman ZM-WB2 Gold $50 CDN
MCW6002-A AMD K7 CPU Water Block - Swiftech $60 CDN
TDX *AMD XP/MP* Block w/LUCITE Top 1/2" CHR FIT - Danger Den $60 CDN

If I was shopping for a new waterblock, how will these three fair? Is it worth the extra $10 to go with the Swiftech or Danger Den? If so, which would perform better?

I say the swiftech or the TDX. They trade off on performance depending what the rest of your setup looks like. So I cant tell you which one to get until you decide on other things like how many other blocks there will be in the loop, the diameter of the tubing, and the pump that you plan on using.

EDIT : Dont make any buying decisions by overclockers.com waterblock tests, their methodology for testing is poor at best, and frankly there are better places out there to get your reviews like www.systemcooling.com or www.procooling.com

Well, right now I have the parts from my old Kingwin AWC-1 (just the Radiator and the water blocks).

I'll be using a C-Systems 750 Mark II Pump, a Swiftech Resovoir and 1/2" tubing. If I get the waterblock, I'll pair it up with probably a Maze4 on my 6800 and a 77' Bonneville Heatercore.

Instead of the Maze4 gpu block, why not use the one from the Kingwin kit? I have mine hooked up to my volt modded X800 pro and it doesn't go over 42C.

One thing to keep in mind though is that it's a extremely restrictive block. I have my tubing running in parallel instead of in series to keep flow high to my cpu....

That's crossed my mind too, but how'd you get the tubing sized worked out? The Kingwin Kit block's tube size is so tiny.

3/8 i.d. tubing will just fit over the threaded inputs on the block. I smeared a little silicone sealant into the threads, pushed on the 3/8 tubing and put on worm clamps to make it water tight.

If you would like I could show you some pics...

That would be fantastic!

Actually I'm thinking I'll go with the swiftech. I can change tghe mounting bracket to use on a A64 in the future, whereas the Danger Den doesn't seem to have that option. Too bad though, I like the look of the Danger Den more :)

Wait to upgrade to A64 until Sapphire comes out with their new ATi based enthusiast motherboard, complete with custom DangerDen waterblocks made specifically for that motherboard. I have to say those waterblocks are some of the nicest looking I have ever seen, look very similar to the normal DD TDX except they use a blood red lucite top with the ATi logo and DD logo etched onto the top, paired up with the pure white PCB on the motherboard.....wow :)

This is overall how tubing is ran in parralel.

3/8 tubing fitted over threaded kingwin block.

Hope this helps...

Nice case, I heard those PSU fans are annoying loud (at least silentpcreview didn't like the PSU fans at all.

Hey, that's fantastic! I went out and bought myself the MCW6000 Waterblock and plan to upgrade the Kingwin block shortly. I'm going to keep the Radiators from the Kingwin Kit until I can afford to buy a dual 120mm Radiator, and get access to the tools needed to cut up my case in order to mount it. Definately going to use 3/8" tubing right now to hook up the pump, the waterblock and the rad's. I've decided to take out the waterblock for the 6800 though and bought myself a NV Silencer for now. I'm afraid that the block would be too restrictive (and to be honest, the waterblock isn't performing all that well, temps are same as stock retail cooling). Had some extra money for the SIlencer (present from Grandmother). :)

Btw, is your system running a T-Line, or is there an external res? Also, are the tubes running out of your case going to the rad?

The T line is right there in the middle

I read the review at SPCR also and was a little concerned about fan noise. But they are almost completely silent, even under load. Overall, I'm quite pleased with it. :)

Yes, I use a T-line and yes, the tubes are running to my rad.

I replaced the NV Silencer on my ATI card with the Kingwin block. With the Silencer, my temps would routinely hit the high 70's, even 80c sometimes. Now I run right around 40c. I didn't think w/cing the gpu would make that big of a difference but it did.

Also a shout out to James Earl Ray for convincing me to w/c my gpu... Thanks Dude!

Really? wow.... I guess I'm hoping the Silencer helps since I heard it does better than stock cooling, and my Waterblock is giving me almost the exact same temps as the stock cooling. I think I have better case cooling than you though (I have a full tower, with lots of fans :D) so hopefully it works out.

Yeah, I figured it was a T-Line, then I realized that there were hoses running outside, and most ppl that do that run their resovoir outside. Then I realized that u didn't have a rad... so figured it must be outside.

How is it running a T-Line? Seems harder to fill

Filling a T-line and waiting for bubbles to bleed out is time consuming, but for me it's worth it. I've used a res several times before but eventually go back to the ol'e T-line.

As far as case cooling, the Silentium T2 case I have is one of the best on the market for keeping case temps low....

Really? Got any pics of the whole case? I'm kind of confused actually as to how the case is setup... since the powersupply is right at the bottom, which is a weird spot to put it.

Well this sux.. I just checked my MCW6000... turns out they gave me the Socket A mounts.. but not the Socket A block... damn I want to strangle someone at Big Foot.. bad experiences there alll the time

i hate having to tell you this but this site offers a newer version the 6002 and i believe for a few bucks more

http://www.e-compuvision.com/shop/?page=shop/browse&category_id=c5699c407c2131aa74488215964b3c63

Yes, I could have bought the 6002, but decided against it since I will be 3/8" tubing. The only difference between the two blocks is the input and output barb sizes. However, I'm thinking perhaps I should get the 6002, so when I go to exchange it Monday, I may go with the 6002 and pay the difference.

Thanks for the headsup though :D

heh, the 6002 isn't really a newer block, they both came out at the same time, it is just a different name, its like TDX w/ 1/2" barbs and TDX w/ 3/8" barbs...same block different sized fittings.

Damn... your right. With the NV Silencer, my Load temps on my GPU went up to 60C whereas before with WCing it wouldn't go above 54C. On the plus side, it lowered my CPU temps by 6-7 degrees. I really need to get a better resovoir. Going to order one soon :)

Yeh, good ol'e H2O really comes in handy for dropping the temps...

Well I reseated the NV Silencer, I'm back to 46C idle and 51 Load. Same as with Water and Stock cooling... lol....

impossible ... how can your load temp be 5 degrees more with air cooling ?

Well the load temps range from 50-53. Usually around the 51-52 degrees. Not sure how that's possible actually.... but I'm pretty happy with it. It's definately quieter than the dual fans on the stock BFG cooler. That said though, i must say the stock BFG cooler is fantastic compared to a lot of other stock coolers.
