The rest of my components are all set, motherboard a soltek via based board s939, cpu 3000+ venice, and psu antec truII 550, i just need a vid card. PCI-E of course.
I originally chose a Radeon x800PRO for $199. That brought my total order to $560.
After doing lots of reading, I dont want to upgrade for awhile again. Right now using a GF4 Ti4400 and I think it runs most things decently. I won't be going over a resolution of 1024x768. Never used AA or AF before but might try it with it on. I noticed for another $50 I could get an X800XL and for another $70 i could get a 6800GT, then for another $90 I could get the 3DFuzion 7800GT or another $120 a 7800GT from EVGA/newegg.
Thing is...I do have the money if I wanted a $330 7800GT, but I'm not a hardcore gamer so its hard to justify. Think about this...I was still satisfied with last years games with my Ti4400. Battlefield 2 is one reason I'm upgrading. Is there a big enough difference between a x800PRO and x800XL to justify a casual gamer spending $50 more? That being said if there is...why not just spend another $50 or less and get a 7800GT from TigerDirect?
If the X800Pro to X800XL isnt a big difference I'll just get the X800Pro, but if there is a difference to justify the extra $50 I'll just get a 7800GT. I hear the 6800GT's run too hot.
I'll be playing mostly Battlefield 2, CoD2, HL2.
I'm thinking the X800PRO should do it for me, but if the X800XL is just $50 more....is it worth it? I do prefer nVidia however I don't want a 6600GT. The x800PRO does beat it by quite a bit doesnt it?
Bottom line, I have the cash to buy a 7800GT for around $300, but I'm a cheapass and not a hardcore gamer. I could just get the x800PRO and upgrade my cpu/video card to say a 4000+ or better in the future and a 7800GT in the future once these cards hit the $200 pricepoint or so. I'm assuming that any of these cards will blow my 4400 away anyhow. When I play half life 2 or FEAR my 4400 is running those 2 games fine for me. Therefore i think i just answered my own question lol. But I still would like comments, suggestions and opinions anyway.
