Okay, getting a new comp at the end of the month to early february and I have my choices narrowed down, I just need some suggestions on what platform to choose. I game quite a bit (but by no means am hardcore), i.e. play games every other night or so. I edit videos, and do 3D work (Alias|Wavefront Maya). This rig will be watercooled, so it will be heavily overclocked! The platforms I'm looking at are:
P4 3.0E w/ IC7
-Pros: Can keep current video card, cheapest solution
-Cons: s478, AGP, DDR, and 875 are effectively dead
P4 530 w/ DFI Lan Party 875-T
-Pros: Can keep CPU when I possibly upgrade again or go nForce5, mid-priced solution, can keep current video card
-Cons: Only two S-ATA ports (not a fan of PCI -> SATA cards), not too many features in terms of audio, etc.
P4 530 w/ Abit AA8XE Fatal1ty
-Pros: Red backlight, future-proof (relatively), have a reason to get a PCI-E video card, can use DDR2 and video card in future rigs, excellent overclocking
-Cons: Most expensive, can you turn the red light off?, Most expensive
Budget-wise I have like 1200-1300 for case (Lian-Li V1000B), PSU, and watercool stuff, can go up a little...
So what do you think? Which one would you get? Which one would you recommend?
