Which SSD to buy?

I know this question is asked over and over again. I keep going through the reviews on Tom's Hardware and I still don't know which one to get. I used to have an 80GB Intel X25-M G2. I switched to the 500GB hybrid by Seagate for capacity reasons and SSD pricing at the time. The Seagate just doesn't do it for me and has been running very hot lately.

Although I only have SATA II in my laptop, I don't mind getting a SATA III SSD. It has to be over 200GB. I tested the new Samsung 470 recently and was impressed. It seemed quite a bit quicker than my Intel. I've been eying up the Vertex 3, but just not sure if that is the best way to go.

My only problem with SATA II is there is a good chance I may upgrade my laptop this year. Especially after testing the Sandybridge CPU. I have an i7 Q720 and the i5 480M I tested had amazing performance.

So if I were to go with SATA III, what would you choose?

Intel Elm Crest or wait for Crucial C400. Stay away from SSDs using the Sandforce controller IMO

I think the new SandForce 22xx controllers will / are proving to be a different animal than the previous Vertex 2 / SF stuff. Obviously we'll have to wait and see. It's a shame their first controllers had so many issues - that's a hard one to recover from. I've been putting the Vertex 3's through their paces and they're taking everything I'm trying to throw at them. I've got another 240GB coming tomorrow and will pick up some of the MaxIO stuff. I don't mind cutting edge, but if you do then yeah, there are probably safer choices out there.
The C300's will continue to dominate for a while. Just the fact you can buy the fastest C300 for not much more than the middle performer SF speaks volumes. $500 for the new SF 240GB is a crap ton of cash, just to get the fastest.

What about the Crucial M4 or C400? Whichever you call it? I see it on Tom's Hardware, but not for sale anywhere.

AnandTech does a pretty good job with SSD benchmarks imho. HardOCP used to do benches way back when, now it doesn't seem like there's much original content coming from [H] anymore.
