hey guys i just got a new board and cpu for my system

CPU - AMD XP 2500+ Barton
Mobo - Abit NF7-S V2
Memory - Mushkin/Crucial 1GB PC2100
Video Card - MSI GeForce4 Ti4200
Sound Card - SB Audigy MP3+
Network Card - Linksys
Hard Drives - WD 120 GB 7200 8mb
Media Drives - TDK 40x12x48, Lite-ON 52X
OS - WinXP Pro

The next thing i wanted to upgrade was my memory, and just needed some reecomendation, i want to upgrade but i dont want to spend a ton of money, since ill probably be building a computer in 6-8 months

Thanks :)

About the best RAM out right now is the Mushkin PC3200 or PC3500 lvl 1. I just bought 1GB of the PC3200 for $200 from Newegg. Mushkin has the lvl 2 for quite a bit more but i dont think its worth the price tag because of only having BH-6 chips now instead of BH-5.

Mushkin is a good deal for your dollar, also check out an anandtech sometimes Mushkin advertises there and there a discount in the link, price might be better than newegg. Other than that try newegg.

ya i just wanted to OC a little not like try to squeeze as much as i can possible get out of it

Look into the Corsair TwinX XMS PC-3200C2PT. Timings are 2-3-3-6 stock. I bought 2GB of it off NewEgg for $251.00/1GB. My new system should be arriving tomorrow morning =)

Search for PC-3200C2PT on newegg (or PC-3200C2 if you dont want platinum heat spreaders, but somehow newegg sold them to me cheaper than the black heat spreaders), or goto www.corsairmicro.com.

I have been using Kreton Blitz Extreme PC2500 on my AN7 with Mobile 2400 and running it at 220FSB (which is beyond 3500) and it's STILL at it's designed speed of 2,3,3,7,1T. It's working great and a lot of people on NewEgg have been saying great things aboutthis memory and how good it's doing for them. $92 per 512mb PC3500.

will i see a performance difference in gaming going from

Mushkin 512 pc2100
Crucuial 512 pc2100

to

Crucial XMS 256X2 pc3200

Not much on your processor. It won't make a huge difference if you have dual channel on that.

Just get a stick of 512. Dual channel in Athlons are a joke.

But you're going from 1 gig to half a gig of RAM it sounds like. That might affect game performance because a lot of the newer ones run better with a gig.

Having PC3200 would be good for OCing and for allowing you to use the 333 Mhz FSB of the Barton, but you'll only have 512 of it instead of 1024. It's your call.

And I'd go with Mushkin Level I.

wait u said dont do dual then u reccomended getting that dual mushkin ram, lol which should i do?

I recommended getting a stick of 512 Mushkin Level I instead of 2x256 MB. There's no "dual channel" memory, just need to run two sticks of same speed and size for dual channel.

it's only $8 more for 512MB on newegg, or am I missing something?
