I am getting my computer all fixed and back on feb. 27, and when that day comes i will have worked up some money for more ram.

i currently have 256mb ddr pc2100 pin184 ram in there, i am looking to add 256[or 512 if its REALLY worth it] and i need some help finding a good brand...

Remember: I am looking for DDR PC2100 PIN 184

thanks

Do you intend to keep your current brand of 256MB in there? If its a generic brand i would scrap it and buy a 512MB stick of quality RAM instead. Mushkin, Corsair, Kingston are all the top brands. Mushkin being the best. Mushkin's lvl 1 system memory is priced pretty cheap and should be good. If you dont overclock though i would get Crucial memory.

how much money would you have saved up exactly?
if u have around $100 or so, u should definately consider getting 512 of pc-2700 or pc-3200 ram
pc-2100 will be the bottleneck of your system

1 thing thing:

overclocking?

If not, go buy crucial. If so go with one of the top brands (corsair, mushkin, etc)

Personally, I'd suggest you invest in Kingston HyperX RAM. It's the best middle ground for price and overclockability. Their timings are fairly good too. I've had nothing but good experiences with their RAM.

Only problem with that idea is generic RAM has generic PCB's and if you stress test the RAM more then likely you will find alot of errors. Its best to stick with quality brands no matter if you overclocking or not because there quality brands for both sides of the fence.

first: what are the specs of the rest of your system?

Second: I have 2 x 256mb sticks of Crucial pc2100 to sell, pm me

I am thinking i will defiently want to overclock in the future, but not too soon. I would like to keep my current stick in there if i can. So if i go with something like a pc3200 it wont even preform @ that level, cuz i have my pc2100 in there. That is why i think i will just buy a pc2100.

PC SPECS:

OS: Windows XP home edition
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2100+ [ 1.73ghz ]
RAM: 256mb pc2100 ddr pin 184 ram
hd: one 40gb and one 20gb
vid card: GF4 MX 440

Umm, wouldn't it be more cost-effective the buy the PC3200 now, and when the time comes, take out the other stick of PC2100 and just drop a new PC3200 in it or something?

Yeah your right, i still have a month to earn the money and see what i want to do.. so heh, thanks for your opinions guys!
