It's a thread in the Intel Processors forum, isn't it? Or am I missing something?

If you see what I posted before, you'll see I'm running a P4C, not exactly taking whatever crap Intel dishes out. The Northwood is a pretty decent version of the P4, even if it isn't as good as an Athlon64. My comment about pimping AMD refers to this:

The starter of this thread says he's not looking for AMD talk. So why is there discussion of that at all? Pretty pointless if you ask me. He's not looking to be converted, he's asking about what people think is better between those choices. Anything else, even my own post about my northwood, is pretty much off topic. For my part I apologize about that... ;)

BTW, that post was mainly in response to this anyway:
K. I am not trying to convert anyone. Being an Intel user myself(see sig), I was merely helping analyze the pros and cons of their new 6xx stuff. A little comparison with/reference to AMD just might help the issue. I wouldn't mind learning a thing or two abt AMD even in an intel thread would you? The thread starter wishes no AMD talk but it doesn't imply even mentioning the name violates any rules. The more the merrier when it comes to info. sharing as long as it's relevant even remotely IMO.

First off, this is not an Intel forum. I guess you were trying to say thread. We forgive you. In the Intel forum, we don't always have to *pimp* Intel and trash AMD do we? If you are so opinionated that you'd take nmw CR#$ Intel dumps on you with full euphoria, well, like I said, some ppl just do that so again, we forgive you but know this: We are not AMD ppl.

yes it is!

Look at the top of the page:

[H]ard|Forum > [H]ard|Ware > Intel Processors > Which Processor excites your the most?

Just like they had to make separate forums for Nvidiots and fanATIcs! (overzealous fan boys of either)

Personally, I'm an Intel NV person, but I can admit when ATI or AMD has a better or equivalent product. Its just a personal preference for platform stability (mobos mostly) I go with Intel. Then as far as NV I've liked their drivers better.

For the fastest gaming rig around I know its and FX-55 and X850XT PE. (unless you go SLI)

But I multi task a lot and have noticed the added smoothness of HT in my everyday use, so I prefer Intel b/c of that.

Once again, to be on topic.... a 630 at 15 multi x 266 (1066FSB) = 4Ghz!

Thats what would excite me the most, if I had a 775 pin mobo.

Sure...but if you are saying on an Intel forum, one is restricted bringing up AMD at all, then how would you compare the two without mentioning the other's name? Say, a thread like AMD vs. Intel, where would you put it? General hardware? My point is being an Intel forum doesn't completely exclude sharing info./experience on AMD esp. when it's relevant to the topic. I understand the *fan boy* situation just can't believe why ppl don't realize either one has advantages over the other and they can fully utilize both....well, I guess ppl are always polarized as on about everything else in this world...

EDIT: What happened to a 530J at 15multi x 266mhz=4GHz

Not saying there's any "taboo" against mentioning AMD in an Intel forum. When the starter of a thread specifically asks that no AMD talk be mentioned though, it's a pretty clear indicator he doesn't want such posted, at least to my mind. I personally think AMD A64 processors are better then the Intel P4, but I also prefer Intel chipsets to chipsets for the AMD platform, which changes the discussion a little IMO. BTW, what's wrong with processor comparison discussions in the hardware forum?

None of thoese options excite me at all. Sir-Fragalot, I think you should of at least had a fourth choice: None of the above.

I've been thinking of some system upgrades for the computers around here. Unfortunately, where I live, (Washington) this summer is going to be one of the hottest on record, and due to the low snowpack in the mountains, electricity is probably going to be more expensive. So lately I've been looking at building some nice Pentium M based systems. Sure the cost maybe higher initially, but I could probably Fold on them 24/7 and they'll pay for themselves and plus, the AC unit won't have to work as hard. With 95% of the performance of the high end at a 1/3-1/4th of the power draw, i'd call that a bargin.

nothing at all! i am just wondering what (sub)forum would you post them in, intel proc, amd proc, or general hardware?

Well, since both the AMD and Intel sub forums are pretty fan-boy-ish, general hardware would probably be the safest... :p

how abt posting it in both? I don't mind starting a war against um....both sides....just go in there and kick some butts.... ....for fun:D ;)

I should have worded my poll differently. I should have basically said, which of the 600 series or new EE series excites you the most. Meaning are you looking for OC potential out of the lower end more cost effective chips, or do you look for the higher end chips.

Does the EE make you drool. It does make me drool actually, but the price doesn't.

I''d love to buy one, but I think I will wait that out since I just spent $700 on a new LCD monitor.

I should have also included a option for "I don't give a crap about the new chips". What I didn't want though was for AMD users to come in here and bash Intel chips. That routine gets really old really fast.

Personally I want to buy alot of hardware right now, but I think I will wait for anything major until the next round of video cards comes out and the dual core processors come out. My system is not exactly slow now, and all though I'd love to be ABSOLUTE top of the line, I think I'll wait for now. I am close enough.

That way I'll have the money when the next generation of video cards and processors arrive. The problem is right now, in order to upgrade my system beyond where it is I have to spend ALOT of money to do even a minor boost in performance.

Well if that was the case, then I of course vote the 6x0. Either the 630 or 640. Because I'm cheap and I bet those CPU's would overclock well.

Does the EE make you drool. It does make me drool actually, but the price doesn't.

The EE used to (make me drool), back when it had a clear distinction between it and the Pentium4 Northwood. (512K L2 + 2MB L3). But now it's nothing more than a Pricey, glorified 600 series with a higher FSB and stripped down power management... In my not so humble opinion of course.

Maybe wording it like:"I'll wait till Intel's next CPU of Awesomeness" might of been sufficient to keep them away :p

hopefully they won't screw up again...

LOL @ thread title....

I do have to say, the Pentium 4 6x0 Series really gets me horny.... .:p

Should be interesting to see how they turn out.

I'll find out in about two weeks. That's when my 3.2F and 915 mobo comes in. :D

The Northwood-Cs are the single major reason why S478 survives today. They don't run hot as Prescotts and are actually priced reasonably, unlike the Prescott competition (until now).

Intel has *finally* come up with a pair of processors that can knock the Northwood-Charlie off the perch: Intel's P4 630 and 640.

What I like about the pair:

1. Faster than the Northwood-Cs they are designed to replace.
2. Four times the on-chip cache (2 MB vs. 512 KB)
3. No-Execute support (like the Intel 5xx J-series)
4. x86-64-bit ready (XP Professional x64 Edition now, and Longhorn x86-64 Edition when it ships)
5. <$300 (e-tail)
6. You don't need to change your RAM (915P chipset uses standard DDR400)

I've been thinking about getting and OC'ing the piss out of a Pentium 4 660.
