My partner needed something thin & light for school, so we took advantage of a good deal on a Samsung Series 7 Ultra, but I feel like she's going to need more space. Actually it has less to do with her needing more space and more to do with me preferring to keep an SSD at least half empty.
My OS SSD in my sig is around 206GB free of 238GB lol.

Anyway, I'd like to pick up a 240-256GB SSD soon, maybe even tonight, but I'm not sure what to go with. I was originally thinking either a Plextor M5M or Samsung's new 840 Evo mSATA, but then I thought about it a little more and figured that they'll all probably "feel" exactly the same, especially when you factor in that this laptop has an i5-3337U.

So, M500 @ $140, 840 Evo @ $188, M5M @ $199, or keep what we have and wait for a deal on a Plextor/Samsung?

PS - She'll be using the laptop mainly for reasearch at school (PhD in Physics), but also does quite a lot of programming for things like programs, websites, and games. Almost all of our static data is stored on a Synology and is accessible when away from home.


Edit - Forgot to add that I'm really not a big fan of TLC NAND. so kind of leaning away from the Samsung.
 
I have 2 128gb m5m in gigabyte brix (intel nuc type of thing), they seem durable so far (they run 24x7) -about 6 months in, and fast with win 8.1.

Yeah... I'm a bit of a Plextor whore (see my sig), but I'm not sure if it's really going to make a difference with an i5-3337U. Maybe I'll hold off until there's a sale on the m5m. Thanks
 
The Crucial M500 240GB mSATA http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQ8RKT4 is actually one of the best performing mSATA drives and also one of the cheapest. I'd check those out. They are great drives from what I've heard.
