Well i was looking into building a sff computer, i dont want a shuttle, i want to get Chenming Micro ATX box instead of the X-Qpack so i can mod the case myself, the only real problem i am facing is which atx mb to get? it has to be 939 socket, and pci-e, so according to newegg, i have 3 options, the ECS RS480-M V1.0, FOXCONN NF4K8MC-ERS, and MSI RS480M2-IL. im torn between the foxconn because it has the nForce4 chipset, which is a good chipset, yet foxconn isnt that great of a company, and the msi because msi makes quality mb's. so im not really sure which one to pick, or is there some other mb that will work that i am yet to know about?
 
How did you miss the JetWay A210GDMS and JetWay A210GDMS-PRO? (the difference in the versions is the added video ram on the pro version)

Many people have it...including me. If you want to overclock, then the Jetway is the best choice. If you run stock, then get MSI since you know MSI.

*note...the Jetway doesn't have firewire, the MSI does.
The MSI has one more PCI slot than the Jetway because the Jetway has a PCI Express x1 slot and the MSI doesn't.
 
intresting, i was using oldversion newegg, and with the search, it only showed the 3 i said, but with the new newegg and it showed me 6 mb's.

i was really planning on ocing because i didnt think they would handel the head very well so i didnt plan on ocing.
 
if you OC the best right now is the Jetway...but it is not saying much. I actually emailed jetway about their product and they have not yet replied to me (which makes me even more sketched out). However, it does OC. The MSI has no OCing but is known and stable. It seem the people on these forums agree that it is almost a trade off in a way because companies aren't making mATX boards that are good.
 
I put the MSI mobo in a Chenming X-QPack a couple of months ago. Works fine. I thought that it had the best/most advanced features of the mATX 939 mobos.
 
If you want to overclock, the Jetway is probably the best choice. If you want to run stock, the Jetway is probably the best choice. 32MB of onboard vid RAM on the Pro and a 20-pin power connector to support what 95% of users already have, as well as an OCZ booster. I found out the ECS has some potential, but overall it is a fairly average board. The Foxconn is barebones and has no OC options - not a good choice. I had the identical nForce3 board and the southbridge got extremely hot, which is probably why they discontinued it and put the noisy fan on it. Not something you want when you are looking for stability. The MSI was a bit of a disappointment, because it really does not offer anything unique. Believe it still uses the old ATi southbridge, which had issues with USB bandwidth. Overblown problem, though. Other than that, the stock mem voltage is weak and some people had problems even posting with their RAM. Their is a bios flash that fixes this, but that does not help you if it does not post out of the box. No OC options on that one either. MSI's support is kickass, but that does not make the board any better.

Jetway's support is kind of laughable... Well at least one person said their actual support is good, but their English is another story! :p Here is a reply I received when I asked about unlocking the overclocking options on an old P3 mITX board of their's that I am using for a carPC:

So ya, I don't know what he was trying to answer, but it had nothing to do with what I was asking! :p Oh well, I wasn't really expecting anything worthwhile, based on what I was asking for.
 
so the jetaway is still just as stabel as any other the other boards, and is the best at ocing just incase i deside i want to?
 
Gobstoppable, I have not run into a board that was not stable at stock, since an old VIA-based DFI for socket A. Any of those boards should probably do fine.

...and yes no question the Jetway offers the best OC options. The ECS might have a little more potential for extreme FSB, but it would take alot of work, mods and frustration.

Yes, like I said many people have it and run it non-stop with no problems....including me. Steeeve sees the Jetway name and runs. Granted that attitude has some validity to it, however the Jetway board is solid, despite any problems their past boards have had.

If you can't wait for any of the boards that are supposedly coming out (though, no manufacturer has announced them), then get the Jetway....like it was stated above....it has the best OC features and with a BIOS update it can handle a Dual-Core 4800+, also it supports the FX line of procs...FX53, FX55, and FX57. So if you start with the Venice 3000+ your upgrade path is nice.

HAHA, I am a "crappy until proven good" kinda guy with regards to computer parts. This is why Maxtor went on the bad list.
 
I Have ECS RS480-M And he is good for me :)

But i think you should go on the FoxConn, the chipset :) .
love that chipset, wish i had the money :)

Last I checked, their failure rates are on par with WD and a little better than Hitachi. Seagate is better than them all, but the highest is not too bad at 1/20. So what is wrong with Maxtor? This would not be based on biased personal experience, would it? Magic eight ball says "Yes."
 
which is why magic 8 balls are just random...

I prefer Seagate and would not buy either a maxtor nor a WD...and hitachi has failed me the most in my laptop so screw them. Lets take a look at Maxtor...

As you said, their failure rate is higher than a seagate...The company lost 176million and the company is not looking great...

Well why care about the company? An easy question; they are the ones that have to be around 5yrs from now for your warranty to be good, if you lose money you cut corners, if you are losing money there probaby is a reason. Bad managment means a bad company and a bad product normally. Why take the risk when you can get a Seagate. Oh and I have had 3 different friends that have lost a total of 5 harddrive from maxtor. only 1 still runs :).
