I'm currently running Win XP off of a 150GB partition on a ST3750640AS (750GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA). I want to format and do a clean install anyway and was considering getting a different drive. I have an LSI 8408E SAS card and was considering either a 73GB 10K SAS or a 150GB Raptor. I could get either for around $230. I don't really need the extra space that the Raptor has but it would be easier because I could run it right off my board instead of off the SAS RAID controller. Would I gain a significant improvement or at least enough to notice? The 750GB seems to be a fairly quick drive itself.
 
The 150GB Raptor will be significantly more responsive than any 10K SCSI drive on the desktop, as well as exhibiting better environmental characteristics
