Which direction to mount block?

Waiting for a Ryzen 5800XT to arrive. Going to water cool it with a XSPC Edge block. Looking at the fin pattern:

it looks like it will cool batter mounted in one direction, though I imagine it won't matter much. With the die layout like this:

I would guess best cooling would be with the fins running parallel to the dies? Which, I think, would also make it parallel to the socket handle? Am I right?

Jet plate slot size (if applicable) and orientation to accommodate your plumbing for best route would be your primary concern in this issue.
That said, if it really concerns you, the best way is to do out of chassis testing where you can compare both ways in a mostly controlled environment.

Per the web site picture, the fins go from inlet to outlet; perpendicular to the lever handle, fluid flowing through the fins not across the fins.

I understand what you are saying but what the XSPC web site doesn't really show is that the block and the frame (the silver or black part) are two separate pieces. The frame always has to be mounted one way (long side perpendicular to the socket handle), but the block can be mounted in any of 4 directions, 2 with the fins parallel (inlet left or right) and 2 with the fins perpendicular (inlet top or bottom) relative to the handle. The flow will always be through the fins (unless you disassemble the block and rotate it 90 degrees but that would be dumb).

Thanks for the responses folks! I downloaded the manual before I started this thread (before I even purchased the block) it was not specified what was the optimal direction to orientate the block. I reached out to XSPC's Tech Support with basically these same questions and this is the response I got at 4am today:

" In our tests, the orientation of the waterblock makes miniscule amounts of performance differences, which can also be mooted by ambient temperature fluctuations, so really is makes no difference. " -- XSPC.

This is what I suspected all along but I didn't want to leave any performance on the table so I had to ask. In the end I will probably just mount the block in a way that makes most sense plumbing-wise and let it go at that. Won't be able to start the build for a couple weeks or so. Maybe I'll do a build log. Is that still a thing here in the [H] forums?
