I was wondering which client I should use on my sig rig. GPU or CPU? The only games I play at the moment is BF: BC2 and like to keep my game at high res, if that info matters. I just have a feeling that SLI GTX280 can get alot done. Also I have a very energy concious girlfriend who does not tlike when I leave my rig running when I am not on it so I want to get most out of the time I do have it on.

Set the GPU client up first and see how that goes. (tell her your helping to fine a cure to all kinds of nasty things and I bet she will let you run your system longer)

The GPU client will have the fastest turnaround times and point yield compared to the CPU client.
Your CPU will post decent points per day but will often take 10+ hours to complete each work unit.

Just pause the GPU clients and close the CPU client when you get into a game of BC2, and start them back up once you're done.

Do I have to disable SLI to get the GPU client to run, or can I just run 1 client in SLI mode?

You can run 2 clients but you have to disable sli every time you turn them on and then switch it back on to play a game. (windows doesn't like this, nor do many of the games)
Most of us, when we do run sli just run one client. That's not to say that most people that run multi GPU rigs run Sli
I had a 3x 9800GX2 rig (6 total GPUs) and never once thought of running sli on it. It was a pure folding rig.

I am running the smp client on the CPU and will set up the GPU client today. I leave the PC on while at work so we will see what it can do......

With newer drivers you should actually be able to fold in SLI mode with two clients. Try following the guide I linked to above, and use the -gpu 0 and -gpu 1 flags for the two clients. The thing about SLI folding is that it seems to work well for some and not very well for others, but it's worth a shot to see if you can get it to work well on your system.
I followed the guide with my crossfire setup but the results didn't turn out so well. I'm using the 10.2 drivers and unlinked the cards but the results took a huge dip when I ran the GPU2 shortcut. Is it possible my machine isn't good enough to support two clients at once?
No, something else must be the problem. I have never heard of any system however old that can't handle more than one GPU client due to a lack of capability. There may be a conflict somewhere. I wish I could help you but my experience with Ati is very limited and I have no CF experience whatsoever.
ATI cards from what I remember (and this was a while ago) do not like it when you run two clients.

I'm not 100% sure on this but originally I was trying to view the display of each running client at the same time. If I view them one display at a time it seem to work fine. Looks like my machine is folding fine but trying to view each client at once to get an idea on the performance was what lead me to believe it was incredibly slow. Perhaps this is an ATI only issue?
Sli can be tricky to get working. Get comfy with running on one card first.

You shouldn't use the viewer. It will significantly slow down F@H performance. Like Kendrak suggested, you should use HFM.NET to monitor your clients. I suspect the viewer is what was reducing your performance.

Forget about folding with ATI cards. The best thing to do in my opinion would be to grab a used card like a GTX260 or thereabouts and fold with it. Upgrading to a quad-core CPU would be good as well for running the SMP client, but I think it would end up costing you more for the amount of points you'll be getting.
