Sonata is a nice case, very quiet but airflow is less than impressive

Id actually consider a Silverstone TJ06, ive been extremely impressed with this case
 
i would go for sonata.... it's the best looking case in the group IMO... i would get that and mod a fan on top or something

Then you don't want any of those. The cooling in them leaves a lot to be desired. You need something with at least a front and rear exhaust fan, or you'll need to add one to one of these cases, which you can. DON'T get the Sonata though. Look at where the front fan mounts... inbetween the hard drives and the motherboard. Stupid design. All it's going to do is recirculate your hot case air since there's no direct route from the cool outside air to the front fan. At least the Solution series cases have a mount for a front fan in an intelligent location and at least somewhat of an open bezel to allow cool air to be pulled in through the front of the case, although it could be better.

If you're building a "high end gaming" machine, do yourself a favor and get a case that has better airflow, or you'll be asking for heat problems .
 
Well what kind of case would you suggest if none of these have good airflow.
 
I just bought a Thermaltake Tsunami. It has excellent cooling with 120mm fans on the front and back. It is also well constructed (tool-less design, etc) and very attractive imho.
 
Any of those cheapy Antecs come with the SmartPower PSU's. They're NOT what you want to use for a high-end gaming system. Email boxes will be ok running in one of those cases, but the'yre very small and very plasticky and the cooling isn't great. You'd do well to invest in something like a good Coolermaster, Silverstone, or Lian Li. I've got two coolermaster cases and the total airflow is about 100CFM through each of them,they're metal and precisely constructed with even and small gaps like a fine car would have, not to mention with a lot of quiet fans they're nearly silent. With the tiny Antecs you'll need fast and noisy fans to get even half that much exhaust CFM.

Get an Enermax or other good PSU from the PSU sticky list in the forum. Don't use the ones that come with cases unless its the Antec Truepower in the SOHO File Server case they make or some of the Enermax cases come with good PSU's. The ones you're looking at are junk food cases compared to the stuff you're putting inside them.

The ThermalTake case is good but noisy, and don't use the PSU's that they come with, or any ThermalTake PSU at all. I had to return two of them because they were so underpowered and noisy, and that was the 480W one too.

actually the sonata is mainly steel and is quite heavy, very well contructed tho.....yes airflow is poor but there is ALOT u can do to improve it as i am rite now modding the case, and i would advise u to get a sleeving kit for the power supply if u decide to get the case and also pick up another 120mm fan as well as a pci slot exhaust fan for starts ;)
 
id like to say none of them. those arent really for gaming at all...but then again, what the hell is a gaming case anyway? i think something flashy and modable would count as a gaming case...but being that there is no such thing as a gaming case, that is still up to debate....but this is all about opinions, so pick the one that looks best in ur eyes

i'd get the lian-li new ones. with the flipped mobo's and 120mm's. although i'd honestly wait till the mobo-trays are introduced (you'd think that'd slowly start to become a standard feature)
 
if you want the best airflow just stick the pc components on a wall and plant a box fan blowing over it......


but in all honesty......TJ06 is where my money would probably go. even though i do really like the lian-li PC65 as well.
 
dude, jsut get whatever case you think is good.... But make sure if u want good cooling, get a cas ewith front fans, and maybe even consider water-cooled...

You can't change the fact that the case is poorly made, no matter how many fans you stick in it and how many holes you cut in it. It'll still be a plastic POS.

Just stick with a good case like the ones people have recommended. The Lanboy is still plastic like the other Antecs though.
 
Well I was going to get the Antec 3700BQE but it seems like its not very good from what most people have said.
 
They're not bad, they're just not really nice because the front pannel is cheap plastic and the buttons and seams aren't as nice as the Coolermaster etc.
 
I'm probably going to get laughed at here, but I just ordered THIS case. There's no US distributor anymore, so I had to order directly from FK-USA, came out to $140 with shipping. Anyways, with the reviews it's gotten, it topped my list. It has massive airflow and is dead silent, plus it's not gaudy. A winning combination in my book, although it's a tad expensive. Add in some Globe 120MM fans, an XP-90 with a Nexus 92mm fan for the CPU, grommets for your hard drives, and a zalman or Artic cooler on your video, and you have a quiet ass case.
 
i agree...its not a flashy case, but it looks pretty sweet nonetheless
