To be blunt, I want to get a new case, something larger than my Antec SLK3700AMD (link).

I have $125 maximum to spend. My goal (eventually) is to watercool, but as of now I'll be sticking to air cooling.

My criteria is as follows: enough room for atleast a single 120mm radiator (possibly double), a case window, GOOD construction (not flimsy .25 millimeter thick shit), and good airflow.

So far I'm looking at either the Lian-Li PC-65 or a Chenming case, although I'm not sure as there are like 20 different Chenming cases (steel/aluminum, no window/window, no window fan/window fan, etc).

Anyways, which do you think woul be better for what I want to do?

I just want good airflow, room to work in, and the possiblity of mounting a single or double heatercore radiator inside.

The Chenming cases are cheaper, but the Lian-Li's look nicer and probably have better construction. Then again, I'll be a little more afraid to cut on a $125 masterpiece then a $70 case.

Oh, and not being loud as fuck would be nice too. I don't need whisper quiet, but it would be nice if the case could damper the noise a little bit.
 
I still can't decide.

The Chenming 602 has a motherboard tray and these removeable sideways harddrive mounts, which is awesome.

The Chieftec Matrix looks fucking nice, but it is only available in steel, not aluminium. The Dragon is (available in aluminum), however, but the front doesn't look nearly as nice.

Well fine, so Lian-Li has had that base covered pretty well for a long time.
 
I guess I'll go with the Chenming 601.

Is it easy to mod the case to accept a 120mm fan? It has plastic mounts for 2x 80mm up front and 2x 80mm in the rear. Could I just take the plastic mounts off and drill new holes and mount two 120mm fans?
 
Harder the first time, easier after.

I'd actually cut out a nice hole for the fan to blow through & stick a grill over it, not just drill holes & mount over.

I actually haven't done this much myself so you'll have to turn to a more experianced metalworker around here for actual technique.

I don't know for sure that you have ROOM for 2x120, or did you mean one at each end?

Yes, one for intake (by the harddrives), and one for exhaust.

After looking at the stock grilling job, I would probably end up having to hack it all out, since it's one piece. Oh well, one 120mm fan is still better than two whiny 80mm fans.

No, I haven't. I'm going by the Newegg stock images, and they don't look too pretty.

Besides, they are $160. :|
 
Newegg used to have much better stock images...now they're all stuck on "Low" and look like they were processed by a demented gerbil.

Ok I looked at the pictures on CM's website, and they look a lot better.

But still, it's far too large and too much money.

I guess I'm going with the Chenming 601. :)

edit: Looked at the 1000AMG; it looks nice, but the Chenming is aluminum and a bit cheaper.

Maybe I'll wait for the Antec P180 or Sonata II, and see how they are.
 
i'd also go with the lian-li 65 too and almost 95% b/c i have one. i've modded mine to have a 120mm intake, so you can too. not to mention the excellent construction all nice and hidden by the sleek exterior.

You are correct, Im not going to lie to you. You almost need a motor jack to move the thing. But hey if a criminal ever bursts into your house with a gun, you can always take cover behind your Rig. :D

I wont deny it is large, and because of that i dont plan on taking mine to many lan partys, but it looks so cool with lighting. :cool:


Think of how much more you get for the extra 20$
