Ok so I am having trouble deciding which 7970 I want to get. I am planning on eventually doing eyefinity when I can get a 3rd monitor and I would like to do it on a single card.(SLI and Crossfire setups are a pain in the ass) Anyway I have a Silverstone Raven RV02 case and I am considering going with the Gigabyte Windforce card. Although I can't decide between this one, the XFX Double D, and the Reference cooler. The XFX Double D is the best looking card, but the Windforce has better cooling. I also haven't ruled out the Asus DC2, but am a little worried about the high VRM temps.(I have also read of high VRM temps on the XFX card) I big plus on the Asus card though is I have not heard any reports of coil whine. Coil whine is one of those sounds that makes my skin crawl if it is loud enough to be audible. Any suggestions?

If you're worried about high temps and coil whine making your "skin crawl", do more research and make your own decision. Be a grown up and pick one!!:D

Your PSU can also be the culprit of coil whine, so it's not always the card. Are you planning on overclocking, and if so, how far?

How are SLI and Crossfire setups a pain in the ass? I beg to differ, installing an extra card and a crossfire bridge is not a big hassle :)

Gee thanks that was helpful. /sarcasm I am doing research. That is what this post is for. There is no better way to find out a cards pro and cons than on a forum. Who better to ask than the people that are actually using them?

I am running a Corsair HX650...I would like to overclock some. I don't want to overstress my PSU though. I already have my Core i5 750 bumped up to 1.3v on the core at 4Ghz, so I am not sure exactly how much room I have left to overclock the 7970.

I never said the installation was a pain in the ass. What is a pain in the ass is dealing with all of the software issues that come with it. I am running 460s in SLI right now and it has been nothing but trouble. Mainly it has caused issues with my other PCIe devices on my board. Not to mention I still can't run BF3 on Ultra on them because 1GB of VRAM is not enough to play without dips. Then there is the microstutter issue.
