Which 6800nu?

Hi,

I have recently decided that its time to upgrade my video card - I currently have a Leadtek Ti 4400 and score 1775 in 3dMark03 and feel like I'm at a major disadvantage trying to play Doom 3 competitively.

I was deciding between overclocking the MSI 9800 Pro or a 6800nu. I need this card to last until Summer 2006 (when I graduate and get an entirely new machine). I came the the decision that its worth the extra $90-100 for the 6800nu.

Anyway, I can't decide which brand of 6800nu I should get at Newegg? The eVGA is $283 shipped, the Leadtek is $286 shipped, the XFX is $288 shipped, and the MSI is $298 shipped. I like the software package of the MSI the best (who can argue with 17 games?) - but I also like eVGA's step-up program (anyone ever used it?) and the fact that they are privately held in America.

I'm definitely ordering this card tomorrow sometime after 2 PM EST, so any recommendations in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I'm wanting a 6800nu also. I'd like one with two DVI ports, but I can only find ones that have one DVI and one VGA. Has anybody seen cards with two?

id suggest gainward.......very nice company as long as you dont use there drivers....(dont argue with me im sitting here staring at my gainward 5600)

lol, I thought pretty much everyone's drivers suck. That's why you use the official ones off of ATI and NV's sites. ;)

i have the gainward, ide suggest it 100%

I have the Gainward as well. It's a nice card but it's huge. I had to take out three of the screws on the fan plate and tilt it to the side so it would fit on my motherboard.

Hmm, the MSI says its at 400mhz core while the others are 325 at default. Dont know if this changes anything or if its just a typo. From the looks of the cooling, seems the MSI has the sleekest I think. I'd get the Evga or the MSI.

my gainward fits fine in my mobo.....

as for neweggs listings, ALL of the 6800NU's say 400mhz core, its all typ-o's

nice and red.

thanks for the "2day" old green evga. 2xQ AA looks great in doom.

what do you have your gainward running at?

Yes, nice and red :) . 350/800 'Golden Sample' mode, havent tried OCing higher yet, no need too.

nice... mine is still at stock speeds... Does the extra 100MHz on the ram make a noticeable diifference?

Yeah, the Gainward is not even an option for me because there is no way it would fit in my Albatron PX845PEV Pro motherboard - if you look closely, notice how the IDE connectors are right underneath the end of any video card and the Gainward is too high to fit in there - a very poor design in my opinion.

The MSI comes with a ton of games, so most likely I'll just spend the extra $15 on it - although I am buying this card for Doom 3 and upcoming DX 9 games, I still wouldn't mind playing Joint Ops, PoP, Invisible War and many others (17 total, lol).

Thanks for all the replies.

It's like three complete games and the rest are demos.

Wow thats a really stupid motherboard design there. :(

Are you serious? It says nothing about them being demos - most of them are older games that I doubt they'd include demos of anyway.

Anyway, thanks for the input everyone - it seemed like everyone had it at either the MSI, the eVGA, or the Gainward (which doesn't fit, lol), so I just ordered the MSI based on the rumors floating around that you can activate its other 4 pipes in RivaTuner and also based on its software package (I won't return it or anything if those games are all just demos - but I will be slightly dissappointed since that is pretty misleading, considering the outside of the box says 17 GAMES INCLUDED! ).

I'm anxious to get it now ;)
