A buddy of mine is going to get a 6600gt but I'm not sure which one to recomend him. He is looking to spend around ~200. Does anyone have one that they can recommend me?
for about $200, ive seen chaintech and MSI versions of the 6600. I dont know anything about msi's video cards, but i've had a chaintech gf4 4400 for 3 years now.
From what I have seen around these forums in the last 2 days for the 6600GT the MSI is pretty good. Cost you about $220 on newegg.com. I thnk Im gonna get the MSI for the build Im working on.
Well seeing as BFG is the fastest out of all that line that is why I placed it number one (besides you get a lifetime warranty, great technical support, and it even comes Overclocked right out to the package).
eVGA is basically NVIDIA, so you are getting great quality there. They offer a 2 year warranty which is plenty for a vid card.
Leadtek, according to benchmark tests and all, rates quite well among its speed and heat.
MSI, just a tad below the Leadtek, also comes with a great software package, but has had many complaints about cards arriving DOA.
XFX, well just because they suck, in my opinino at least.
I got ASUS N6600GT (why no one ever mentions it? because it costs $230?)
it runs everything at full blast!! with no problems, no lags nothing...from HL2, DOOM3 to FarCry...it runs flawless...it costs about $230 on zipzoomfly.com and it come with DDR3 memory...its really awesome card!
I have a Galaxy 6600GT, man is she beautiful. Great cooling on it, came overclocked right out of the box. Decent price. If you can find a Galaxy go for it.
BTW - Galaxy is a German company, so it's German efficiency at work!
I've got a Leadtek 6600GT and it runs great. Extremely quiet (I can't even hear it, as opposed to the other video cards I've bought in the past), and overclocks fine. I don't wanna risk the life of this baby so I'm running it on stock speeds (500 core, 1000 memory) and it still runs great.
Came with 3 free games (Doom 3, Pandora Tomorrow, Sands of Time) for $210.50 shipped on New Egg, too.
i got my MSI 6600gt for $194 shipped brand new and it is a sweet card!
the video in video out feature is sweet (vivo) i use it to play xbox on my LCD thats hooked up to my PC.
i get awesome fps in cs:s, farcry, and doom 3. I run CS:S at 1280x1024 (as high as my lcd goes) with 6xaf and 16xaa (i think i got those right? or did i switch them? all i know is that they are both all the way up) and i get 74fps in the video stress test and it never dips below 38 or so in cs source online play in big servers (like 16+ people)
i recomend the msi if you want a really nice card. the thing weighs alot for a video card due to that massive copper heatsink
I'm tired of seeing garbage like this here. Seems like this whole board is 90% newbies replying to any thread they can giving bad facts and terrible advice.
The XFX should reach 570-580 core and 1200-1220 mem. It's on the less quiet side.
Well maybe my analyzation was a bit harsh and simple, let me clarify:
I would suggest going with the XFX, it just would be one of the last ones on MY list, again these are just suggestions. It did perform quite well in tests that I have read, even though Leadtek beat it out just by a tad, not by much. Lots of complaints on problems with overheating, and if one owns this card and plans to OC then they will probably find it difficult with such heat issues. Seeing as well that there isn't a silencer for this card yet as well doesn't help.
There is a guy over on www.ocforums.com that is making a nice cooling setup for the 6600gt. I have seen pictures of the prototype and it looks good. Alot of the 6600GT cards have had issues with the HS seating in the reviews I have read so far. I like the cooling on the leadtek cards, as they have always done a good job with their out of the box solutions.
Of course, all cards may have issues with heat, some more than others. Leadtek does have nice cooling as well as eVGA and BFG, well I mean for standard. Supposdedl y they will be releasing coolers for the 6600 series in mid to late February...so we shall see.
I cant see why they wouldnt being at the highest selling price point for performance cards they would be stupid not to. Just like ATI not making AGP cards. I was happy to see they would be or are supposidly supposed to make the x850xl in agp. The 6600GT is running away with no contenders in the $200 market. Something to keep prices in check and give us a choice would be nice.
Got my XFX 6600 GT AGP in November for $200. Dual DVI, and my auto overclock: 570/1.15. For what I paid, I'm happy and the performance is more than I need these days.
