Ok, Xmas is done now, so I can buy my own stuff now without feeling guilt :D
Anyways, I had pretty much landed on the Samsung 997DF for about $200 from a site from pricegrabber, but when I looked for the 997DF on pricegrabber, it came up with a couple other very similar models, including the 997DFTT for about $20 less than the 997DF, so I want to if I should go ahead & get the 997DFTT, or another 19 inch CRT for less than $200, recomendations smiled upon?

Personally I'd say get a Sony Trinitron or NEC/Mitsubishi Diamondtron(careful NEC/Mitsubishi makes shadow mask's too) aperture grille CRT. The Samsung CRTs are all shadow mask, which aren't truly flat and have lower color precision than the aperture grille CRTs.

You'll get more precise text with shadow mask's but every top graphics workstation comes with an aperture grille Sony usually. Trinitron and Diamondtron are trademarks of Sony and NEC/Mitsubishi and they OEM ot other brands like Dell.

I got a 997DFTT for xmas, looks pretty good, nothing major I've seen to be worried about, as for the above post can't help you there, but I can't really tell that its shadow mask.

I've got 2 of the 997DF's. I am very pleased with them, decent monitor for the price and look good at 1600x1200.
It's cheaper to buy them locally since tax comes out cheaper than shipping if you pay $199 for it. I got my second one at Circuit City for $209 out the door.

I would get the 997D. Last time I checked at newegg they were pretty cheap.

You can buy my 19" compaq mv920, offer a price if you are interested, I can get pics...
