ok, so it looks like i have a shuttle sn95g5 with a fried mobo...(out of warrantee, plus i sawed off the rear fan grate)
Components:
A64 3200+ (939)
2x512 DDR433
250gb SATA HD (on its last legs...plastic piece of data connector snapped off, but pins intact, so i stuck it in the cable and slid it over the pins, and duct taped the mess together)
16X DVDRW
Asus X800Pro AGP 256mb (flashed to XT)
Mix-n-match water cooling system (i.e. 120mm BIX radiator, asetek waterchill GPU block, swiftech 6000 series cpu block, mcp350 pump, single floppy res)
the motherboard appears to be borked (i.e. i get a red LED on the board and some beeping, but no northbridge fan spinup, etc.)
as i see it this leaves me with a few options:
A) recycle what I can (cooling, CPU, optical, VGA) into a new SFF or something (seems that i might just end up going with a microatx case and an old K8M800 mobo)
B) get a new shuttle motherboard and see what happens
C) start from scratch (i was thinking conroe/single GPU to eventual SLI/copious amounts of ram or perhaps going with a more budget-minded AM2/single GPU to eventual SLI/copious amounts of ram)
i'm kind of inspired by dual core on my macbook, but on the other hand, i sort of want to not buy/build a whole new computer
any ideas?
