when does a XP3200+ become a bottle neck?

I plan on making a custom water block for either an evga 6800($246 newegg) or an xfx 6600GT($185 newegg) agp card. I plan on overclocking both cards but will my cpu become a bottle neck with a 6800 pushed to all her glory or will the 6600 push the cpu to the brink? Since this will be the last upgrade for this system I would like her to go out with a rightous overclock.

current system specs:
H2O cooled cpu, hard drives and soon to be video card
2500 barton running at 2.4Ghz
512MB PC3200 @ 2.5-3-3-6
Asus A7N8X-X mobo
430W Enermax PSU
 
I wouldn't intentionally buy a slower video card because you have a slower CPU. You will still be able to run in higher reses and use better AA and AF with the 6800 as opposed to the 6600. Unless you don't plan on keeping the AXP that long, go with the 6800.
 
I'll answer ur question...when the pentium 4 "C" 3.0ghz came out :) but really..I wouldn't worry about that unless ur playing at 640x320..... just pump up the resolution and ur fine :)
 
i have considered this as well

i have a 2500@3200 on a msi k7n2 delta-l, nforce 2 ultra, 1gig dual channel kingston hyper-x...and a radeon x800pro.

now how much of a bottleneck would the cpu be. i had a 9800pro in there and i avg around 6800 3dmarks (3dmark 03) when i overclock the video card to the max. now with my current setup and the x800, i get around 9800 or so. i was expecting to break 10k. my buddy got an athlon 64 3400 1mb cache, x800, gig of xtra low latency, and a k8neo-2 and he broke 11k on 3dmark03 without even overtclocking....where im goin with this blah, who knows.

although i have set my gffx on most games to the max, and havnt had a single slowdown, except with doom3. bf1942/desert combat/BF:V, unreal series, and doom3 are all i really play. and havnt had a hiccup yet. im holding off for 64bit dual cores till i upgrade, and i figure this will hold me off till then...what yall think ?
 
I'm in the same boat. XP3200+ with 6800GT. I think my real bottleneck is that I have only 512MB of RAM, don't you?
 
yes u get more ram, and the guy above u, yes ur system will hold out until the dual cores :)

My 3200 works great with my X800XT, Doom3 16x12 4XFSAA/2XAA at over 45 FPS.

It has some life left in it. Your bottleneck for games is 512 MB ram.
