Because nothing irks me more than people like LegendKiller. He would never make it in the business world with an attitude and outlook like that. He's incapable of reading something and comprehending it. He constantly had to be retold things I already said in previous posts. I don't deal well with morons, idiots, or just those who feel so bad about themselves they have to put everyone else down to feel good.

This is exactly the thing your doing.

You really don't absolutly have to argue with someone. There are times when I could easily argue with someone to the point of personal attacks knowing I am dead right. Usually before that point I just drop it and go my own way as I would rather swallow that little tiny shred of pride that the other person is futally trying to take from me, and I just think in the back of my mind that I am truely int he right.

Theres no reason to get upset over this stuff.

I only do it when someone questions a fact. I sat in the class, listened to the lecture. When argues with me over something they weren't there for...I blow my top and will argue. I am not debating with his business practices were right or wrong. All I was ever saying was what he told us. It's just like if I argued with you over what YOU had for lunch today. I wasn't there and I have no idea. So for me to tell you something other than the fact would make me a moron. So for someone to argue with me over what was said in a class....is just stupid. Unless we were both in my class.

It's a level of ignorance I have no tolerance for. To argue with someone about a subject you have no info on....truly is remarkable. Even a lawyer struggles with that.

I didn't claim the guy revealed the truth behind ghosts, aliens, and JFK. All I stated were the gist of his talk....that they can jack the price way up over cost because people will buy them.

No, I put them up to see what you actually knew about finance. Apparently, you dont know shit about it, thus you aren't even qualified to discuss the capital and cost structure of a company.

Good for you, you went to a good IT school. I have a BS, MBA, and I am a CFA level 3 candidate. I have 3 years of investment history where I raise 300 million in cash for my company every 6 months, and 3 years of IT at one of the largest universities in the country. I am in 3 finance honors orgs, graduated Summa cum laude from B-school, worked directly for the president of said school and I published 2 papers, 1 in stanford management review regarding corporate profits and governance, and a 2nd regarding insider trading laws. I work for a fortune 100 company reporting to the CFO directly, the CEO was businesweeks Top 2 CEO in the country , I meet with him on a monthly basis.

What does that boil down to? Jack shit. Why? Because even without that I have the fucking common sense to realize that a company has more to its structure than pure profit on a machine that can be built, by a single person, for much less.

alienware made a good name for themselves... so therefore people are willing to pay more for the product..

sure you can sew your own clothes, and believe it or not.. most people could learn... they just dont' want to... the same is true with computers, most people just don't want to or know they can.... so they buy clothes... some buy at wall mart.. others at expensive stores..

alienware is a prestige symbol to some people, so they will be willing to pay more for it..


i could make another example too.. people that pay huge amounts of money on B&W speakers... or other high cost speaker brands.. there are lot of people that build their own speakers that sound and perform every bit as good as B&W speakers... and they do.... but other people, don't care, don't have the tools, don't have the knowledge.. or whatever and decide not to build their own speakers even though they can... and then most people get cheap sony mini systems...
 
Thank you, CardboardHammer....it backs what the guy was saying. Alienware has a name...meaning they can jack the price. Do you really think Caddies and Lincolns are good cars? Maybe, but certainly not anything close to what they charge. Why do they charge that? Status...and people willing to buy the name. Same thing as your clothing designer example.....excellent. Is a Gucci bag better than a Walmart one? Sure...but 10x better? Nope.

Jesus H. Christ...I flew by the seat of my pants for the 2 years that I owned PCFX with nothing more than a high school diploma and an MCSE before I sold it...perhaps if I were more qualified y'all would be asking if PCFX was worth it, and not Alienware. ;) If I had a BS and an MBA maybe my VC expeditions would have been successful...people like letters attached to a business plan...

Oh, and if you're interested in what we did, we were in the Oct. or Nov. (pretty sure Nov.) issue of Computer Gaming World...

Directron.com; Marketing Coordinator...that's how I know the hard deck on pricing...

I worked full time during the early days of PCFX to pay for the company, I had no outside investments. Directron and I entered into a partnership...I worked for them, they worked for me. It was intersting, but they turned out to be vicious, deceitful and cruel people.

Without reading this thread entirely, I can already imagine that the majority of the people stated that Alienware rapes you in charges and fees when you can build a computer with the same specs for 1/3 of the cost. Alienware is the typical, "I'm a name brand with a good name, I'm going to charge you extra just because you own something with our name". It's a sack of shit. Sure, the parts are good, but unless you're rich and HAVE to have an Alienware made computer, there's no point to it... build your own computer, it's easier than it looks.
