I still don't understand why people would get a high end P4 over a A64. And i think he meant to say X800 or 6800.
 
*not* a suggestion to start an AMD vs. Intel discussion... 'cause there are enough of those. :p

But, depending on what you're doing... the A64 so far has been (mostly) superior for gaming purposes.

Of course, the P4 is really more than adequate for the purpose of gaming, to the point of splitting hairs for what you'll see with a high end graphics card (such as an X800XT or 6800U) and it will also handle encoding faster. If something to the means of 12 seconds needs to be saved out of your day whenever you encode audio/video. Of course, with a 64-bit O/S (when/if) and applications, the A64 (should) smoke the P4 regardless of your task.

We'll see. (as always.) Buy the best you can afford at the time based on the available benchmarks that are closest to your needs, and be prepared to upgrade later, thats just... well... how it goes.

Or, buy cheap stuff sometimes and OC it until it dies. :D
