between a 9600pro and a 9600xt
how much faster is the xt to the pro ?
and what are the nvidia equivilents to the pro and xt?

ultimately.. not much.

i believe the xt is clocked at default like 100mhz higher on the core (correct me if im wrong).

but with a little TLC on the 9600 pro im positive you can reach just as high as an XT will be able to clock.

You are correct, Jason711. The XT has 100 Mhz more on the core than the Pro, effectively making it 500 Mhz for the core and 600 Mhz for the memory (they should have OC'ed the memory too, thats where it counts). The nVidia equivalent is the 5700 Ultra to the 9600 XT, and the vanilla 5700 to the 9600 Pro.

thanks guys
i was just curious, i got a 9600 pro yesterday :D
upgraded from a gf2 gts.
its currently running 460mhz on the core and 720 on the memory.
is that safe for stock cooling?? or will it burn out over time?

Yea, the stock hsf should be fine for those speeds. The RAM may get a little hot, but it shouldn't get hot enough to do any damage as long as you have good airflow. Good luck :D .
