what's needed for 3d?

[Curve]

I plan on building a new gaming rig soon and would like to have the ability to play 3d games. That being said, I know very little when it comes to 3D so I'm not sure what's needed. So my questions...

Do AMD video cards support 3D or must I get nvidia?
besides a 120hz monitor and the glasses is there anything else needed to do 3d?

AMD 3D support has been pretty well botched up to this point. The 6xxx line to be released soon may or may not fix this. See this thread:

Dont forget Aspirin for the headaches.
