We all know about the R520 and how the specs look great etc... But I was wondering what Nvidia has on its plate. I know they are continuing with SLI for a whil, but there should be something planned, So I was wondering, are there any rumors about the G70/80 around?

Dual core and putting that good old SLI tech to work.

Bet you can either dedicate dual cores to a single screen or one core to each screen in a dual arrangement.

That's the billion dollar question right there. Nobody seems to know the answer either. Nvidia is staying tight-lipped as hell this time around...I don't think it's ever been this secretive before.

I'm thinking that Nvidia is kinda pissed about the one-upmanship ATi pulled with the x800xtpe over the 6800U and they are holding their cards close to the chest on this one to keep it from happening again.

I see two possibilities: Either Nvidia is going to release yet another radical architecture change and go straight for Longhorn compatibility early...or they are going to make some minor improvements and really focus on a huge speed boost.

Pretty much the only thing known at this point is that at some point Nvidia changed it's mind and scrapped the NV50 in favor of the G70. I take this as either they saw R520 and realized they needed more speed instead of more features OR they realized that they were ahead of schedule with G70 and could move it up a couple of months to compete with R520...given the new naming scheme...I'm guessing that it's the latter...

I expect G70 to be WGF compliant and bring yet another huge speed boost to the table...whether or not it will beat R520 on the performance front is anyone's guess...R520 certainly looks to be on track for an impressive launch...

So to reiterate...yeah...nobody knows...

Actually I don't think so. X800 XT PE might get better benches in some benchmarks / games... but the two cards are far more competitive with one another than say the 9800 and fx's etc. You can also notice that the x800 line of cards are clocked much higher, which gives praise to the 6800 series architecture. It's able to do as much with less raw power. And for super high end solutions... you've always got SLI. Now... please no flaming... **hides**

like how amd gets more praise for lower clocks and is still fast..well in this case...amd kills intel so its kinda different hehe
 
Yeah but still you are comparing a years old architecture with a brand new one. This architecture has lasted three gens and has proven to be either on par with or beat the competition. Clocked higher it may be but its also cooler (temp wise) and smaller. None the less both are fantastic cards. If someone disagres with my opinions then please reply in a calm respectful manor.
 
He's right. ATI has just revamped tech they have had.
nVidia however created a totally new architecture. I forsee this architecture going places. I bet they Clock this higher and revamp it and also realease the new chip as there super highend card. I mean heck these chips have some playign room to stay in the game for a while.

I totally agree with you. I'm not saying the x800xtpe ended up being the clear winner...but I think Nvidia feels that by launching first they gave ATi a target to shoot at with clock speeds. Clearly ATi wasn't able to supply the x800xtpe at the clocks it was released at in any kind of volume...so the x800xtpe ended up mostly just being the spoiler for the 6800 launch...this time around I'm sure Nvidia would rather wait and see what ATi is going to do first so they can respond accordingly...
 
well going back to the and/intel analogy..
amd just tweaks old tech (K8 is very similar to K7) while intel seems to make more radical changes (netburst was a huge change from the p3, and prescott is more different from northwood than K8 is from K7)

though i guess that has nothing to do with nvidia/ati, as they're both a mix of the two.

however, as was pointed out, nvidia has already brought a much different core to the table, while ati has tweaked. it's time for ati to make some profound changes before the mhz start getting out of hand, thus leading to a prescott type situation.
but then again, nvidia dropped the N for a G.. which piques my interest. perhaps they have a trick up their sleeve, thus the secrecy? maybe they really are just so far behind that there's not much to say atm? we'll find out eventually
