2 36.7 gig Raptors in RAID 0

or

1 74 gig Raptor

It's about the same price and very close to the same amount of storage. I need to know because I am configuring a PC for my brother to go to college. I know the 74 gig has a slightly faster seek time, but I don't know if that will overcome the advantage of RAID 0.

Thanks!

It all depends on what you do with your system. Few applications/games really take advantage of a Raid 0 setup. If you frequently work with very large files then the Raid0 setup would probably help you out quite a bit. Most people use windows, play games, run applications, etc and the increased seek times of the 74gb Raptor would be better in those situations. Some more advantages of the 74gb drive is that it's quieter and would be more reliable than a Raid0 array of the 36gb drives. If one 36gb drive fails, you lose everything. It's also quite difficult to move that array to another computer and still read data off it. So if you have a motherboard failure or something you need to get an identical model and even then it may or may not work. I have never thought the few seconds saved in loading game levels was worth the risk of Raid0.

Thanks for the reply! I will probably just stick with a single drive then as he will mostly just be gaming on it I assume :).
