I am looking for a video card that I can upgrade from my X600 Pro. I dont care if its ATI or NVIDIA. I just want to support everygame tha comes out for a couple years. I dont feel like upgrading my video card every year to play a game. So I just want to go all out on one, that will be able to support alot of games for a good amount of time. I was thinking about an X850 XT. But then again I was also thinking of waiting to ATI releases there new ones. Whats your opnion?
 
Nope, I really dont need one right now. But soon I will, I dont think the X600 can do much more with all new games coming out and there graphics capabilities.
 
if you can wait it out till the R520 based cards come out (maybe summer?), then I would suggest that. Even if you don't want any of the cards based on the new gpu, there should be a significant drop on the current cards by then
 
And most of the info on the new cards is for the high end card. They will probably have 90nm 16 pipeline cards with 128 bit memory similar to the top card. Maybe something like 70~90% of the performance of a X850 for $200 and $250.

That sounds like a great idea. Even if I dont want to spend money on the new ones, the old ones should drop in price and provide good performance for quite a while.

ATI RV530 is an X700 replacement

With WGF 1.0 support

ATI HAS 90 NANOMETRE plans for all of its chips. It plans to refresh its offerings with the R5xx generation and all of those chips will be built on 90 nanometres and all will be WGF 1.0 compliant. WGF 1.0 stands for Windows Graphic Foundation, the future Longhorn name for Direct 3D.

It's too early to know many details about this card but we know ATI plans to introduce it toward the end of Q3 or the beginning of Q4.

We expect that this card will feature Shader Model 3.x as this is definitely the direction Nvidia has taken and where ATI wants to be in the future. More and more games are adopting Shader Model 3.0, so ATI kind of has to go down that road.

This card should be feasible as a low profile answer as well and it will be possible to make 128MB to 512MB versions. We expect to see many SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) based on the RV530 - in other words we expect to see many different cards based on this chip.

We still don't know many chip details but this card will likely end up with more than eight pipelines as this is the current number of pipes for a mainstream card. µ
 
Wait for the R5*0s, your current card will last for a few months more, and the R520s and such will last for a couple of years. No point putting down alot of money on cards right now.
 
Waiting for the R520s would be a great idea.

I think I might even get one sometime.
