which ssd's do you guys use?

before i had 2 others i forget their names, but one was a: 64gb no cache,
one i don't remember nothing about it;
now i have an ocz vertex 4 256gb
and a crucial c300 128gb
+Samsung 840 pro 256gb
+Samsung 840 evo 500gb

you?:)

anybody have a 850 already?
 
I prefer, crucial, or samsung. Used be intel in there too till they started using sandforce.
 
I have two Samsungs but want a 1TB or 500 GIG Crucial

The ones I have and fill up pretty fast even with steam mover moving the single player games to the HHDS.
 
Get the biggest SSD you can get is my best wisdom otherwise you will have a PC full of small capacity SSDs.
 
I'm using three Samsung 840 Pros. I've never seriously considered another brand to avoid chasing my tail for no good reason. The new 850 Pro has caught my attention, but it's not on my radar unless one of my existing SSDs bite the dust (which I seriously doubt). I looking forward to the "next generation" of SSDs, but I'm also wondering if PCIe SSDs aren't the wave of the future. Lots of good stuff to think about and it's nice not having to decide for a couple of years.
 
All of my purchased SSD's have been Crucials.
I have a couple of Mushkin drives that I got for free, but I don't like them as much, not exactly sure why.

Crucials support and firmware updates are great.
 
Intel - preferably the models with their own controllers, but overall have found whether Sandforce based or not their drives hold up well.
 
Crucial or Samsung because they have a solid history, but ironically the only two SSD's I've bought were Muskin (shit) and Corsair because they offered cheaper 480GB+ drives at the time I bought them.

At the end of the day you go where your wallet takes you, but these days there's almost no excuse for picking the top brand for a few bucks more.
 
Other than some crappy OCZ SSDs, last gen or two of SSDs have all been super reliable. I think I've still yet to have a non-OCZ SSD fail. And then any current SSDs are all fast enough. You're not going to tell the difference between one or another without the aid of a benchmark app. Only thing that really matters IMO at this point is GB/$.

That's a fair question to ask. But has there ever been a brand of SSD's that have an issue with durability? SSD's starting hitting the market main stream around 2007-2008. It's been 6-7 years. Where are all of the failed SSD's at? I think they're much more durable than people think.
 
My PNY XLR8 is doing just fine, speed is a major improvement over what I had previously *5400RPM HDD*

If I had to build a new system or buy a new laptop, it would 100% have an SSD. When I boot up this old "scatch" laptop with a 5400 rpm HDD, it's painful. Yet we all lived that way back then. Fortunately we don't have to still live that way.
 
I honestly just prefer a decently fast drive with a great warranty from a reputible company that uses good parts. So, Crucial, Samsung, or Corsair.

Never used a Crucial drive before, but I do plan on picking up one of those 512GB MX100s! :D
 
I have had a few, they were all very good, from my experience even the cheapest is much better than a hdd.

You can buy a Kingspec (or other brands) for very low cost, it works great on a linux system for example where you don't need a lot of space for the OS. I bought a 32gb one for about $30 for one linux pc and it is great. On Windows PC's I have used 256gb Kingston and Samsung SSDs.

But make sure you get a new sata cable! I thought my OCZ Vertex 2 ssd was broken (crashed and wouldn't reboot windows) and went back to a using a HDD for a year or so but when I got a new Samsung 840 that had the same problem after a while. In the end it was the sata cable (an old one I think) that caused the problem and the OCZ Vertex 2 works fine (I did also update firmware and run the OCZ trim).

So so far none have ever worn out. I do take the time to tweak the OS in linux or run an auto tweaker in windows which stops some unnecessary tasks that wear out the ssd. I also over-provision now (leave some unpartitioned space).

I started out with Samsung drives (when the 830 was all the buzz). My last two drives have been Crucial though (M500 and just purchased an MX100). The current price point of the higher capacity crucial drives is just too good to pass up imo (I find it difficult to justify the extra cost for something like an 840 pro).
 
2 times I broke the little SATA power connector off the back of a Kingston HyperX SSD by... barely moving the wires surrounding the cable it had on it. I swear they are so brittle... or can get brittle depending on shipping conditions? Happened a few months apart. Once the drive was replaced by the vendor and the other time the drive was replaced by Kingston. I didn't expect them to cover it because it's technically user error (noticing a pattern with me? all thumbs and bad luck too) but they did.

Then I saw a thread about someone who had this happen with a Sumsung drive and Sumsung refused to cover it. The thing is the connectors on my Samsung drives don't snap because I'm extremely careful with the connectors on storage drives now (and I suspect they aren't as brittle). That was definitely the easiest way I've ever bricked anything. Twice... Good Lord. :eek: Most people just don't talk about these things--but I'm here to help you by being stupid on your behalf.
