I'm thinking about getting a water cooling system in my computer. I only really want to spend about 100-150 dollars. Should i buy a cooling kit or buy different parts? And my case isn't huge so i need a smaller kit i believe.
 
most people spend 350-$600

as for a cpu only loop with a good parts maybe $250 dtek/d5

i know thats probly not the answer you looking for, as far as it fiting in the case most people run external rads attached to the top or back so you just need to worry about the pump and the blocks inside
 
Alright, you did help. But i have system runs at 150 dollars but they go quick. I guess will have to save up some more money.
 
I've gone down this path before. You can't really do a worthwhile system for that type of money, unless you find someone selling there stuff here on the forum.

I would go out and get yourself a thermalright ultra 120 extreme for the time being, that should give you some good cooling while you save to get a proper watercooling set.

NO! I'm pretty sure the thermalright will put up better numbers than that.
You really can not go out and buy a water cooling kit. ( swiftech being the expection)

That is a pretty good kit, but even so will not post the most impressive numbers. I'm not a water cooling expert, but i went through this whole process about a year ago...i'd rather see you not waste your money on some crappy kit.
 
k thanks, well this is the deal, i just sold my projector and psp for 850 and other things for my total to get to over 1000 dollars, but i have to get a 37 inch plasma tv and the left over money will be going to my pc. Thats why i have such a low limit.

At the very least you want to get that swiftech kit i listed, but really if you could have say $300 to play with, You would be very happy.
 
I just bought some things to upgrade my WC. I got a new block(fuzion), a new res(ek multioption), tubing, and additive(pentosin g11). total was about $120.

Add a rad and a pump to that and your looking at another $120. So i think 250 is a fair number for CPU watercooling only. and that is with all good parts.
 
Go for high end air cooling. There are some great air heatsinks/fans out there, many of these will cool better than bad water cooling with only a little more noise. Bad water cooling is a no no. It's not magic that gets rid of the heat in water cooling, it has to flow to the rad and get cooled off by your fans.
 
eBay is super helpful in finding good deals on water cooling stuff. Also, it never hurts to place a WTB ad in the for sale / trade forum here. There are usually people with WC gear to sell.

Say you go with a 3/8" setup:

Tubing- $8 PVC 3/8" ID x 1/2" OD at hardware store
Pump- $40 Used MCP350/355 pump (has 3/8" ID barb fittings on it.)
Res- $20 Swiftech microres(includes fittings)
Rad- $40 New Mcr-220, or less for a used rad, plus $5 for fittings
Block- $60 for a new Dtek Fuzion (includes fittings)

That is a decent setup, and roughly $180 with shipping, but you could always look toward a cheaper waterblock, etc..
 
With water cooling you either go all in or don't. If you only have 150 bucks I would get a high end air cooler.

But you might be able to pull together a nice system.
 
My price has changed to 200 bucks and im going to buy parts to save money hopefully, i'm going to buy parts from xoxide and new egg and in this forum. What is a good block for cpu?
 
Xoxide and newegg are a no-no. Jab-tech is generally the cheapest place for most WC stuff in the US.

Dtek Fuzion 60$ - Jab-tech

BIP 240 radiator (used) 25$ (on the forum). Get a 320 if you ever wanna go GPU as well.

Masterkleer Tubing (10ft) and 2 yate loon fans and some Pentosin coolant(jab-tech) 15$

Dtek DB-1 pump (a great budget option... Mine's been going strong for 3 months now!) for 50$. Get an MCP355/MCP655 (for about 70/80$) if you plane on EVER cooling the GPU.

Get a T line and some Hose clamps, along with distilled water, at the hardware store for about 10$.

Can be had for about 200$, easily... Even with the MCP655 pump!
 
For $200, with a double rad and decent pump plus a FuZion, you should be getting better temps than a 120 eXtreme at much lower noise levels - why else would there still be a market for single block loops (other than looks/bragging rights ;))?

Arcygenical and joecop120's suggestions are fine, except joecop120's tubing suggestion - 1/8" thick walls with 3/8"id tubing will kink incredibly easily. for 3/8"id, you'd want at least 3/32" thick walls, so at least a 9/16"od - although 3/8"id-5/8"od is what you'll most likely see available.

And also i checked jab tech and all there pumps with 3/8 barb fittings are out of stock.
 
I agree, go thickwall tubing, harder to work with, but it will never kink.

If you want to save money on WCing, you should look at heater cores and AC pumps. Unfortunatly you have a small case, small and WC dont really mix for me. :D
 
Should i just got for a $200-$250 external water cooler system if i have a smaller case?Or would this make no difference. Please tell me some good sites besides xoxide, new egg and jab tech that would have internal and also external water cooling set-ups. I was looking at a zalman external water cooling system with all good reviews for $199 excluding shipping.
 
No. Don't get ANY kit other than the ones from petras tech shop. NONE of them live up to their names, and the ones that do, cost a fortune.

You can easily mount a triple radiator on the back of almost any case with a rear 120mm fan... Just get some longer screws.
 
and would it be alright if i set the reservoir on top or underneath my dvd drive?
 
alright becuase im going to get one and make the clear tank show out the front, get my flow?

Can't do better than jab-tech IMO either... Never had a problem with them.

Do yourself a favor and grab a few extra yate loons. They're awesome fans, and you can totally replace all the other 120s in your case with them.

MCRESes are nice and compact, but D-Tek has most any clear bay-ress you could want.
 
I was just peepin' thru this post and I have to agree that jab-tech is a good WC'ing supplier, but IMO Petras (maybe a little higher) has the best customer service.

Forget the kit idea, while I think the Waterkeg is one dynamite WC'ing system it's just too expensive for me. IMO WC'ing is a "do it right the first time thing" (spend the money) or get a high end air cooling system (most high end air cooling systems are better than mediorcre WC'ing)

I have a E6600 (folds 24/7@3.0 GHz) with a Apogee GT (unbowed) WB, a MCP350 pump(unmodded), a micro rez, a MCR220 rad (mounted outside), and 3/8th tube (go with a thick wall to prevent kinking). With tubing, coolent (a little Penision (SP) and antifreeze (which I didn't need, no below zero temps or aluminum in my system) I think it all came to less than USD $250 dollars and I've got the bare minimum. (in fact it probably makes real WC'ers schiver)

I think WC'ing is fantastic and I'm going to try and get a new penryn quad (9450) and WC' the crap outa it.


The biggest problem with WC'ing (unfortunately not the only problem) is it's expensive to do it right. You can get the advice and experience of many of the good WC'ers on this forum and the xtreme forum. Good Luck
