What is Adobe ImageReady really for?

I'm an accomplished user of Photoshop. I use it in combination with Paint Shop Pro damn near every day for content creation. But, ImageReady is installed in the same package as PhotoShop so it makes me think that it must have some purpose.

What exactly is it that makes ImageReady different from PhotoShop? What can you do in ImageReady that you can't in PhotoShop?

imageready = fireworks

good for slicing and web design stuff. you can slice up an image and it will output html with tables all setup. it does a poor job of coding, but it does do it
 
I just use it to make gifs, but as said I guess it does a lot more.
