What happens to array when u reformat?

I have a RAID 0 set for my master drive and then a RAID 1 backup for my photos. Now when I reformat the primary "disk" will my RAID 1 be ok? This is a hardware RAID on an intel board. Sorry if this is newbish, I just have never done it and I cannot lose my photography.
 
so you have 4 drives, arranged in two arrays (one RAID-0 the other RAID-1), correct?

provided that you have the formatting utility select the right array, it should not touch the data on the other array. A 'failsafe' option would be to disconnect BOTH RAID-1 drives and reconnect them after the install is complete, provided that you RAID controller is smart enough to realize that they are part of an array.
 
ah thanks. Thats what I was thinking but wasnt fully sure. So If I unplug the other drives and then plug them back in the RAID should know? If it doesnt am I screwed ???
